School for Democracy, Rajasthan has invited applications from the eligible candidates who are interested in the institutions of the delivery of justice, especially in Rural India.
The candidates selected for the fellowship programme will be paid a monthly salary of up to Rs. 20,000 based on their qualifications, experience and performance.
About the Organization
The School for Democracy (SFD) or Loktantrashala is located in the district of Bhilwara, in Rajasthan. It has been registered under the Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958. It is dedicated to promoting and deepening understanding of democracy – as a concept and practice. It is conceived as a space that will enable various groups of adult learners from diverse social, economic and educational backgrounds to learn about the theory and practice of a functioning democracy. The school aims to develop effective tools and techniques of democratic education while engaging actively with the challenges of fashioning a more equal, just and participatory democracy.
About the Fellowship Programme
Democracy and Constitutional Values Fellowship Program is a great opportunity for lawyers who are from historically marginalised societies interested in the institutions of the delivery of justice, especially in Rural India.
The fellows will aim to build a network of lawyers in Rural Rajasthan – mainly belonging to Dalit, Adivasi, Women, Nomadic and Minority Communities.
Responsibilities and Activities of Fellows

The fellows will work in selected parts of Rural Rajasthan at a trial court level, on a full-time basis.

The fellows will be expected to travel regularly for about 12-15 days a month to build a network and to help organise meetings along with four other fellows and a coordinator.

The fellows will also be encouraged to do legal aid work for the rest of the month in a rural/trial court of their choice.

The fellows will engage with rural trial court lawyers to build upon their experience and build a network to foster constitutional values in the pursuit of justice.

The fellow will help remove barriers to access to justice for the marginalised communities themselves.
Required Qualifications and Experience

Law background is preferable.

Experience of working in courts especially trial courts would be useful for the position (but not required).

A desire to learn and a willingness to work in a collective is a prerequisite.

The ability to communicate and draft in Hindi is required.
