UPES School of Law proudly announces its 11th edition of “UPES – Dr. Paras Diwan Memorial International ‘ ‘Energy Law’ Moot Court Competition 2021. The competition is scheduled from April 23, 2021, to April 25, 2021.
About UPES
Established in the year 2007, UPES has emerged as a premier institution and is the first Indian University specializing in Energy Laws. UPES has constantly worked hard towards educating with purpose and creating skilled professionals to drive the Country.
The School of Law, under the aegis of UPES, is a unique, domain-specific institution with specialization in courses like Energy Law, Corporate Law, Taxation Law, Cyber Law, Criminal law, Labour law and IPR, among others.
UPES School of Law has been successfully organizing Dr. Paras Diwan Memorial International ‘Energy Law’ Moot Court Competitions since 2011. The competition aims at creating opportunities for learning and testing one’s skill in the field of energy laws.
Over the years, this competition has sought to preserve and advance the legacy of Dr. Paras Diwan, an eminent jurist and a stalwart in the field of law.
Since its inception, the competition has grown by leaps and bounds with the competition going international in 2015. With astronomical advancement, the competition has furthered the banner of Energy Law throughout the world. The theme for this year’s competition is conflict over gas explorations.
In the light of the pandemic, the 11th edition will be held virtually this year, but that isn’t going to stop us from making it a memorable one. The platform for the competition is via virtual conference.
Registration Details

For registering for the competition, the teams can provisionally register your institution by sending us a mail on [email protected] providing us with the requisite institutional details latest by March 07, 2021, and further, submit the Final registration form (link here) must be submitted online at [email protected] on or before March 10, 2021.

There is a team capping of 26 teams for this event and registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The first preference shall be given to the teams who have already provisionally registered with us.

There is no registration fee for the competition.

Eligibility and Team Composition
-
The Competition is open to all students, enrolled on bonafide at the time of the competition on a regular basis in an undergraduate law course or its equivalent conducted by any recognized Institution/College/University.

A recognized Institution/College/University shall be entitled to send only one Team for the Competition.
-
Each Team shall comprise three members. Two members of the Team shall be designated as Orators and the third member shall be designated as the Researcher.

Any additional member or Team Coach accompanying a Team shall not be recognized and will not be entitled to a certificate from the Organizing Committee (OC).
Prizes and Awards
Prizes and Awards shall adhere to the following scheme:

Winning Team: Certificate of Merit + INR 25,000 (cash prize) + Internship Opportunity with J. Sagar Associates

Runners–up Team: Certificate of Merit + INR 15,000 (cash prize)

Best Written Submission: Certificate of Merit + INR 5000 (cash prize)
-
Best Orator in the Preliminary Rounds: Certificate of Merit + INR 5000 (cash prize)

Best International Team: Certificate of Merit
Note:

The Best Orator in the Preliminary Rounds shall be determined as per the Oral Score awarded to each Orator in the Preliminary Rounds in accordance with Rules of the Competition.

All members of each Team shall be awarded Certificates of Participation. Semi-Finalist and Quarter-Finalist teams shall also be awarded Merit Certificates.

The OC reserves the right to make any changes to the above-mentioned rules.
