RGNUL’s CADR is organizing a conference on Dispute Settlement in International Trade Agreements, scheduled to be held on February 10th and 11th, 2022.

 

About RGNUL

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law [RGNUL] is a National Law University located in Patiala, Punjab, India. It was established in 2006 by the Punjab Government as a university dedicated to the field of Legal Education. 

 

About CADR

The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) at RGNUL, has been established to promote students’ and researchers’ interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution constituting dispute resolution methods like Arbitration, Negotiation, Mediation and Conciliation and it aims to promote and develop ADR as a vehicle of socio-economic and political justice. The ultimate objective of the Centre is to strengthen the ADR mechanism in the country by emerging as a platform for students to further their interests in the field. A strong team of teachers and students is working towards achieving this end.

 

About CTIL

The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) was established in the year 2016 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT). The Centre’s primary objective is to provide sound and rigorous analysis of legal issues pertaining to international trade and investment law to the Government of India and other governmental agencies. The Centre is aiming to create a dedicated pool of legal experts who could provide technical inputs for enhancing India’s participation in international trade and investment negotiations and dispute settlement.

 

About the Conference

CTIL and CADR, RGNUL are organizing a conference on Dispute Settlement in Regional Trade Agreements: Prospective Pathways on 10-11 February 2022. The conference seeks to shed light on and enlighten the participants concerning challenges as well as the possible direction in which dispute settlement could evolve in RTAs and the WTO. The conference will, among other topics, focus on the dispute settlement provisions in CPTPP, USMCA and the European Union trade agreements through dedicated sessions. These trade agreements contain innovative approaches in their dispute settlement chapters that are poised to offer considerable guidance and influence on dispute resolution. Understanding the scope and nature of dispute settlement in these RTAs is key to visualising the emerging trends in the international trade agreements. The discussion will bring together a variety of perspectives from both developing countries and developed countries.

 

Format

The event is staged to be graced by national and international virtuosos from highly renowned institutions. The Conference will consist of four sessions and two discussions with multiple special addresses from legal luminaries, held across two days, 10th and 11th February, from 8:15 AM – 7:15 PM IST and 11:00 AM- 7:15 PM IST respectively.

The organizers are also proud to announce that the conference shall witness the presence of the Hon’ble Minister of Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, as its Chief Guest.

  3. Dispute Settlement in International Trade: Lessons Learnt from the Past [Discussion II]
