About Alem
Indian Muslims’ enrolment rates in higher education (in proportion to population share) have been lower than Dalit and Adivasi students in the same period.
While Muslims comprise 14% of India’s population, they account for only 4.4% of students enrolled in higher education. In the case of legal education, undergraduate Muslim students formed a mere 2.14% of Indian law schools. In the case of the top five national law universities, this number falls to 0.76%.
ALEM has been formed as a platform to increase the representation of Muslims in Indian law schools by conducting awareness campaigns in schools, enabling access to coaching, and supporting personal mentorship.
