Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Service Examination is conducted by the Gauhati High Court to hire subordinates in judicial services for Grade – III (Fresh Graduates) positions within the State of Arunachal Pradesh.

Grade – III Judicial Officers means the Judicial Officer designated as Civil Judge (Junior Division) on the Civil side and Sub – Divisional Judicial Magistrate & Judicial Magistrate on the Criminal side (as the case may be). The examination will be conducted as per the rules given under Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Service Rules, 2006 (as amended).

These exams focus on Indian legal and constitutional governance and history, current developments of national and international interest, and the analytical aptitude and skills of the candidate.

 

Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Service Examination: Eligibility Criteria 2023

Nationality

  • A candidate must be a citizen of India as defined in Article 5 & 6 of the Constitution of India.

Educational Qualification

  • To be eligible to appear in the Arunachal Pradesh Grade-III Examination, the candidate must be a holder of a Degree in Law from a Bar Council of India (BCI) recognized university.

  • The candidate also must hold the license of practice as an advocate i.e he/she must clear the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) for appearing in the Arunachal Pradesh Grade-III Examination.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit to appear in the APJS Grade-III examination is 35 years.

  • However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to the reserved categories. They are given below in the table:

Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Service Examination: Exam Pattern 2024

The selection process of the Arunachal Pradesh Grade – III examination segregated into three stages. One stage is followed by another.

  • Stage 1: Preliminary examination

  • Stage 2: Main examination

  • Stage 3: Viva – Voce/ Interview

 

Pattern for Preliminary Examination

The Candidates will have to appear in a Preliminary Examination(objective type multiple choice) of 100 Marks. The candidates will be called on the basis of a 1:10 ratio i.e. 10 (Ten) candidates will be called against 1 (one) vacancy for the final written examination.

Pattern for Main Examination

The Main Written Examination will be of 400 marks comprising four papers i.e. Paper – I, Paper-II, Paper-III, & Paper – IV. A total of 400 marks will be considered for raking. All the candidates must obtain 60% (50% for Reserved Category) or more marks or corresponding grade in the Final written examination to be eligible for Viva-Voce.

Pattern for Viva-Voce/Interview

  • Total marks allotted: 70

  • This is the final stage of the Grade – III examination which is 70 marks. The candidates would be called for Viva-Voce/ Interview at a ratio of 1:3 (i.e. three candidates against one post) subject to marks obtained as stated above. The selected candidates must secure 60% marks in the Viva – Voce/ Interview.

Syllabus for Viva-Voce/Interview

There is no specified syllabus for Viva-Voce but the interview is intended to supplement the written examination for testing the general and specialised knowledge in law & other subjects as well as the abilities to solve the problem during the course of work.

The Board will pay special attention to assess:

  • intellectual curiosity,

  • critical powers of assimilation,

  • balance of judgment and alertness of mind,

  • the ability for social cohesion,

  • the integrity of character initiative and

  • capacity for leadership.

The candidate will be expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in his/her subjects of law but also in events that are happening around him/her both within and outside his/her own State or Country.

They must have knowledge in the field of Current Affairs, New Discoveries & Inventions also. The technique of the interview is not that of a strict cross-examination, but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation intended to reveal the candidate’s mental qualities and his/her grasp of problems.
