Kerala Judicial Service Exam - Eligibility Criteria
While applying for Kerala Munsiff Magistrate recruitment, candidates should ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria. As the recruitment to the announced vacancies is done through transfer and direct recruitment, candidates must refer to the eligibility criteria for both the mode of recruitment below.
Direct Recruitment

A candidate should be a citizen of India to be eligible to apply for Kerala Munsiff Magistrate recruitment.

They must hold Law degree recognized by the Bar Council of India to get enrolled as an Advocate.

The eligible aspirant must be of good character and sound health.

Candidates should not exceed the upper age limit of 35 years of age as of January 01, 2020.

The upper age limit is relaxable up to 05 years for Scheduled Caste candidates.
Transfer Recruitment
An in-service candidate is eligible for the announced posts only if he/she has a law degree. A person is declared qualified if he/she is holding/held any of the posts stated below-

Assistant Public Prosecutor Grade I & II

Under Secretaries, Section Officers and Librarian in the Advocate General’s Office.

Assistant Registrars and other officers of the High Court in the same salary of Assistant Registrar, Accountant, Section Officers, Personal Assistant or Additional Personal Assistant to the Chief Justice, Librarian, Reference Librarian, Court Officers, Accountant, Filling Scrutiny Officers, Head Translator, Private Secretary to Judges including Higher Grade, and Personal Assistant (Selection Grade) to Judge in the High Court of Kerala.

Sheristadars of District Courts, Special Courts, Additional District Courts, the Office of the Motor Accidents Family Court and Wakf Tribunals and Sub Courts, Claims Tribunals, the Office of the State Transport Appellate Tribunal, Senior Superintendents of the District Courts and Additional District Courts and Selection Grade Confidential Assistants in the Subordinate Civil Courts.

Kerala Judicial Service - Exam Pattern
The direct recruitment examination refers to the commencement of the competitive examination. Candidates have to appear for the prelims and mains examination for which the scheme of examination is provided below.

The minas examination consists of a written examination and interview round.

The Mains (Written) exam consists of 04 papers.

Each paper carries 100 marks at a total of 400 marks.

Kerala Judicial Service Exam - Selection Procedure
The selection of candidates for the post of Munsiff Magistrate is done through direct recruitment and transfer. Under transfer recruitment, candidates have to fulfil the eligibility norms. In this section, we have discussed the selection procedure for Judicial Service through direct recruitment. So, the direct recruitment mode majorly consists of Prelims Exam and Mains Exam.

Prelims Exam – The preliminary examination is a screening test. This stage is conducted to shortlist the eligible candidates for the mains exam.

Mains Exam – As we have already mentioned that the mains examination consists of mains written examination and interview round.

Written exam – Based on the marks secured in the mains written exam, candidates are shortlisted for the viva voce round. The number of candidates is shortlisted for the next round does not exceed three times the number of notified vacancies.

Interview Round – The interview round is conducted for 50 marks. Candidates have to secure a minimum of 40% marks for the general and OBC category and 35% marks for SC/ST in this round to qualify.
Kerala Judicial Service Exam - Cut Off
The candidates who will score marks above the decided cut off marks will be considered for the advanced stages of selection or the final merit list. The candidates who will score the minimum qualifying marks will be considered for the final merit list. The cut-off marks will be is 40% (general category) for each paper of the mains exam and the overall cut-off marks will be 45%. For SC/ST candidates the cut-off will be 35% and 40% respectively.
