Punjab Judicial Service Examination - Eligibility Criteria

The detailed information on the eligibility criteria for the Punjab Judiciary PCS is given below. Candidates who meet the necessary criteria are eligible to submit the application form for appearing in the examination.

Given below is the Judiciary Exam Eligibility announced for the recruitment of Civil Judge in Punjab:

 

Essential Qualification

  • Aspiring candidates must have a bachelor degree in law from any of the recognized universities in India and must be qualified to be an advocate under the Advocate Act, 1961. The degree can be obtained from the Punjab University (undivided), The Tribhuwan University, Nepal, the Dacca University, and the Rangoon University, or Sind University or the Mandalay University in Burma. Candidates who are Barristers of Ireland or England or members of the Faculty of Advocates of Scotland are also qualified.

  • Aspirants must have Punjabi skills till Matric or any equivalent. 

 

Nationality

  • Aspirants must be an Indian Citizen or

  • Candidates must be a subject of Bhutan or

  • Aspirants must be a Nepali Citizen or

  • The candidate must be a person who is of Indian origin and has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire, Malawi, and Zambia with the intent of settling on a permanent basis in India or

  • An aspirant must be a refugee from Tibet who entered India prior to the date of 1st January 1962 with the intent of settling on a permanent basis in India.

  • Apart from Indian candidates, others are required to provide an eligibility certificate issued by the Indian Government in order to obtain the appointment letter for the position.

 

Age Limit

  • The lower age limit and the upper age limit of the candidate is 21 and 37 years as of the last submission date of the application form. 

  • The upper age limit for all the Central/States Government employees is extended to 45 years of age.

  • The upper age limit for the candidates applying under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes of all States and Backward Classes only of Punjab are relaxed till 42 years.

  • The upper age limit for Physically Handicapped persons who have Punjab Domicile is extended up to 47 years.

  • The upper age limit for Divorced women, widows and other specific categories of women is relaxed until 42 years.

  • Allowances in terms of age limit are offered to the ex-servicemen of the Domicile of Punjab. They are allowed to calculate their age by deducting the years they have provided in the service of the Armed Forces of Union. If the age calculated does not exceed more than three years of the upper age limit for the post concerned, then the candidates are eligible to appear for the examination.

 

Punjab Judicial Service Examination - Pattern 

The entire procedure for the recruitment of the Punjab Judiciary Services is completed through three different stages – the preliminary examination, the main examination, and the viva voce. Referring to the Best Books for Judiciary Exams can help one qualify the various stages of the exam:

 

Punjab Judiciary Preliminary Examination Pattern

  • The duration for the entire examination is 2 hours.

  • The question pattern is objective, with 125 multiple-choice questions.

  • The total score assigned to the prelims is 500.

  • Each wrong answer leads to the deduction of 0.20% of the score assigned per question.

  • The topics include current events, aptitude, main law subjects, and constitutional history.

 

Punjab Judiciary Main Examination Pattern

  • There are five papers under the Punjab Judiciary Main Examination.

  • Four papers are assigned a score of 200 and one with 150.

  • The duration of each paper is 3 hours.

  • The format of the Punjab Judiciary Main Examination is narrative.

  • All the papers are conducted in the English language except for the language paper. 

 

Punjab Judiciary Viva Voce Pattern

  • Only the candidates securing at least a 50% score on all the written papers are eligible for the viva voce.

  • The total score for the Punjab Judiciary Viva Voce is 100. 

  • The Viva Voce is conducted in the English language.

 

Punjab Judicial Service Examination - Examination Syllabus

Punjab Judicial Preliminary Examination Syllabus

  • The format of the question paper is objective and has 125 multiple-choice questions.

  • Only candidates who can obtain at least 150 marks in the preliminary examination are qualified for the main examination.

  • The score obtained in the prelims is not counted in the end result.

  • Candidates equaling 10 times the vacancy spots declared, procured according to their merit are eligible for the main examination. The number can change.

  • If more than one candidate gets the same score at the final number, then all of the candidates will be considered eligible for appearing in the main examination.
