Job Description:
Responsibilities
- Employment Law:
- Serve as employment counsel for operations in India, providing practical, compliant, strategic legal advice and counsel on a full range of employment law issues common to large U.S. public companies with global operations
- Proactively identify employment law risks and partner with appropriate stakeholders to develop strategies to mitigate such risks
- Support and advise Employee Relations on employee complaint/hotline investigation matters and other workplace investigations
- Advise on compliance with the PoSH Act and various other applicable employment laws
- Provide training to leaders throughout Ameriprise India on employment law compliance
- Monitor and communicate changes in employment laws relating to the Ameriprise India operations, partnering with Human Resources to drive changes to operations as appropriate
- Strategically and cost-effectively manage employment litigation or other adversarial proceedings in India, including leading and managing relationships with external counsel
- Provide general legal support and solutions-focused legal advice on a variety of matters specific to the Ameriprise India business
- Monitor and ensure in partnership with subject matter experts in the GCO that the organization's India operations comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Assist with other legal matters as requested
Qualification & Experience
- LLB or LLM degree from a reputable institution with excellent academic credentials
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years providing employment law advice, with experience in advising multinational corporations
- Ability to build internal relationships and operate effectively with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional partners at all levels in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding client-service focus and technical mastery to convey complex legal principles clearly and concisely in order to develop solutions and facilitate decision making
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Ability to manage confidential, sensitive information
- Resilient, results-oriented, and collaborative
- Unquestioned integrity and professionalism
