Having humbly begun as evening classes in borrowed premises, this college that first lit the candle of legal education in India stands tall amongst all its contemporaries.   About the Competition The Magazine Committee of Government Law College, Mumbai presents the 21 st Dinesh Vyas Memorial Government Law College, National Legal Essay Competition 2021-22. Writing is a proclivity that a lawyer must never detach from himself, and thus, each year, the Magazine Committee of Government Law College, Mumbai, organizes a national level legal essay writing competition, the ‘Dinesh Vyas Memorial Government Law College National Legal Essay Competition’. The Dinesh Vyas Memorial Government Law College National Legal Essay Competition is sponsored in the memory of Late Mr Dinesh Vyas, one of GLC’s most distinguished alumni, who obtained his LLB degree from Government Law College in 1967.   Topics of the Competition The Topics for this year’s edition are: Analyse Indian laws with respect to reproductive rights. Do they sufficiently protect the bodily autonomy of all the stakeholders involved? With reference to previous laws passed, address the need for formulating a refugee law in India. In light of the recent establishment of the Sports Arbitration Centre of India, comment/shed light upon the scope of arbitration in disputes relating to sports. Critically appraise the concept of live-streaming court proceedings. Does it do more harm than good? Analyze the Mediation Bill, 2021. Is it a step forward in the right direction?    Eligibility Students pursuing LL.B. Objective This contest has been designed with the following objectives in mind: To enhance the soft skills amongst students. To develop the art of public speaking. To encourage self-learning among students. To stimulate their thinking process and sensitize them toward contemporary socio-legal problems. To enable them to organize their thoughts and present them in a systematic manner. To get the students familiarized with information technology and use them effectively in the self-learning process.   Eligibility Competition is restricted to bonafide regular students of Law School/Law College/Law University. All participants must be students of LL.B. / B.L. and may be either from three years or five years course.   Rules of the Competition Each college can send a maximum of 02 entries for the said competition. Each entry will consist of 01 participant, no group entries are permitted. There is no entry fee for the Competition. The participants will have to bear their traveling and all other incidental expenses (No TA/DA will be provided to the participants) Free lodging and boarding shall be provided to the participant short-listed for the final round of the competition. Participants are required to make a PowerPoint presentation on any socio–legal subject/contemporary legal issues and shall submit a soft copy of the same to the Email Address given below. The same subject powerpoint presentation which was submitted in the immediately preceding PPT Competition will not be accepted. After submitting the soft copy of the PowerPoint presentation for the competition, Participants are not allowed to make any changes to their PPT presentation. The participants will have to give an undertaking that their work is original. If it is found that the work is not original, the entry may be canceled. About the Organizer Heritage Law College has been set up with a view to advancing and disseminating learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development.   Eligibility  The competition is open to all students pursuing full time Undergraduate/Post Graduate Course provided by a recognized institution/university/college in India.   Location Heritage Law College, Kolkata, West Bengal.   Registration Details A registration Link will be shared with the Colleges separately. A soft copy of the Memorial is to be submitted within or by the 2nd of December, 2022 (11:59 P.M.) at mootcourt[at]hlc.edu.in.   Memorial Submission All memorials submitted for all purposes of the Competition shall firmly comply with the rules of the competition. Each participating team must prepare two written submissions, one for each Petitioner/Appellant as well as the Respondent/Defendant side. The name of the file for the memorial shall be the allocated team number followed by the first letter of the side represented; an ‘R’ for the Respondent and ‘A’ for Applicant. For example, the Respondent Memorial for Team 01 shall be named as follows: ‘T01R’ and the Applicant Memorial for Team 01 shall be named ‘T01A’. About the Organizer Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram, entrenched in the glorious legacy of more than one hundred and forty years, is one of India’s oldest institutes imparting legal education.   About the Competition The 17th All India Moot Court Competition will be held from the 2nd to the 4th of February, 2023 in the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram campus.   Eligibility  The Competition is open to all Law Colleges and Faculties/Departments of Law in India, recognized by the Bar Council of India. This year the Competition will be held entirely in a physical setup. The teams shall be asked to put forth policy proposals that will address the policy questions put before them. One of the key challenges of our time is to find the sweet spot of regulation that balances user interests, regulatory concerns, and the need to allow innovative businesses to flourish. These are hard questions that countries all over the world are grappling with at the moment. Participants will be required to suggest a model for platform regulation that is best suited to India. About GNLU Gujarat National Law University is a statutory University established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003.   About the Centre The GNLU Centre for Research in Criminal Justice Sciences is dedicated to specialized studies in the field of Criminal Law, wherein the main objective is to encourage research and analysis in this dynamic field of law.   About the Competition The GNLU Centre for Research in Criminal Justice Sciences is organising the first edition of its Legislation Drafting Competition. The competition provides a remarkable opportunity for individuals to learn the nuances of legislative drafting and hone their skills in that respect. The competition will help the participant to understand the intricacies of the process of drafting from identifying the issues to striking a standard balance between the ideal and the pragmatic aspects. Legislative drafting fosters students’ capacity to observe the current legal issues and lacunas and offer solutions in that regard, as well as expand the horizons of their knowledge, analytical skills, and interpretation of the law.   Eligibility The competition welcomes students across all law schools to participate and help in the dissemination of ideas and experiences on the prescribed topic. The competition is open to all students pursuing LLM or LLB from a recognized Law College/University. There is no restriction on the number of participants from a particular university. The participant can register individually as well as in a team that may comprise a maximum number of 2 members.   Language English   Topic Prevention of Substance Abuse in Higher Educational Institutions and Schools   Submission Guidelines The text must be in Times New Roman with Size 12, line spacing should be set to 1.5, no paragraph spacing with a one-inch margin on each side, and the alignment of the text should be justified. Footnotes must be in Times New Roman, Size 10, with Single Line spacing. Page numbers must be given at the Top Right-Hand Corner. The draft shall not exceed 25 pages (excluding the cover page). The cover page of the submission should include the Long Title of the bill along with the name of the Author(s), with the Author’s designation. The Content of the legislature drafted should be original and not plagiarized (15% limit), or there shall be a deduction of 1 mark each for every percent or can lead to disqualification. The decision of the organizers shall be final. The breakdown of a section shall be as follows: SECTION 1. (“SECTION” for 1st section and “ §” for subsequent sections, followed by Arabic numeral) (a) (Subsection) (lower-case letter) (1) (Paragraph) (Arabic numeral) (A) (Subparagraph) (upper-case letter) (i) (Clause) (lower-case Roman numeral) (I) (Subclause) (upper-case Roman numeral)     Format of the Draft Legislation The Draft of the Legislation should be in the following format: The Long Title The Preamble The Enacting Clause The Short Title Extent and Commencement Clause Definitions The Operative Section Procedural Provisions Exceptions and Exemptions Clause Offences Penalties Provisions regarding Delegated Legislation Repealing and Saving Clause (if any) Miscellaneous Provisions   How to Submit? If it is not satisfied with the Submission Guidelines and Terms and Conditions, it will be rejected instantly. All the drafts must be submitted in both Microsoft Word Document format (.doc/.docx) and PDF Format (.pdf) [i.e., each Team is required to send 2 files One in MS Word format and one in PDF format]. The body of the submissions must be in the font “Times New Roman” with font size 12, with line spacing of 1.5 and justified. (The Font size for the Headings can be formatted as per the choice of the participants) The Footnotes shall be in Times New Roman, size 10, single line spacing, justified. Authorities shall be cited as per the 20th edition of the Bluebook. The decision of the organizers in deciding the winner(s) shall be final and binding and no query, correspondence, etc. in this regard shall be entertained by the organizers.   How to Register? About the Organiser The Chair on Consumer Law at National Law University Delhi has been established by Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It is headed by Dr. Sushila, Associate Professor (Law) at NLUD.   About the Quiz Competition The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 came into effect in August 2019. It has repealed and completely overhauled the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 with the objective to provide timely and effective administration and settlement of consumer disputes.  Consumer protection laws represent one of the most critical components of the market architecture of the economy with a wide range of stakeholders. It is essential that the students of law, commerce, management, and all other streams understand the nuances of this specialised subject through both education and training in this field. In this light, the Chair on Consumer Laws at National Law University Delhi is organising the 4th Edition of National Quiz Competition on Consumer Protection Laws 2022 on November 12, 2022. The objective is to provide an opportunity and a conducive platform to students from various universities to expand, explore and develop their knowledge of consumer laws through the medium of a National Quiz. The Quiz will be held online, in two stages: Stage 1 shall be an MCQ preliminary test. After the results have been compiled, the shortlisted candidates shall be contacted over email for Stage 2 (i.e. the Final Round to be administered via Live Video Conferencing).   Who can Participate? Undergraduate students, from all disciplines, may participate in an individual capacity.   Awards The top 3 participants will be awarded cash prizes: 1st position: ?6,000 2nd position: ?4.000 3rd position: ?2,000 All participants will be issued Certificates of Participation. The Quiz promises to be an enriching and exciting way of learning more about consumer protection laws in India.   Registration Deadline The last date for registration is October 25, 2022, 11:59:59 PM.   Rules of the Competition A maximum of three students from a single College/University may register: participants will be shortlisted on a first-come-first-served basis. Only applicants who have been successfully registered shall be contacted for further details. Further, no winner of any previous editions of the quiz can participate in the 2022 edition. The participants are advised to have seamless internet connectivity. In case a participant logs out or disconnects from the quiz at any time due to internet connectivity or otherwise, they will be treated as an ‘external person’ for the remainder of the quiz; i.e. they cannot rejoin the Quiz. The organizers will NOT entertain any complaints regarding connectivity in view of the sanctity of the National Quiz Each participant shall provide one valid email address to the Chair at the time of registration. The Chair has the sole discretion to enforce, clarify, interpret the rules; resolve any disputes that may arise during the Competition and has the power to change/supplement the rules, if any changes or supplements are necessary.   How to Registration Participants may register online through the link given at the end of this post.
