Global Essay Competition on ‘Intergenerational Contract’, St. Gallen Symposium
Global Essay Competition on ‘Intergenerational Contract’, St. Gallen Symposium

Submissions are being accepted for the St. Gallen Global Essay Competition 2021-22 from around the world to offer the opportunity of applying for participation at the St. Gallen Symposium.   About the St. Gallen Symposium Gallen Symposium is intended to provide Leaders of Tomorrow with a platform where they can discuss with today’s executives at eye level and challenge them so that new approaches to thinking and solutions can emerge. The “Aspiring Leaders” are participants who have the potential to take on a leading role in the industry.   About the Essay Competition The St. Gallen Global Essay Competition is a global student essay competition, offering students who study at graduate or postgraduate level around the world the opportunity to apply for participation at the St. Gallen Symposium. The Knowledge Pool is a group of Leaders of Tomorrow with a strong affiliation to topics of relevance to the St. Gallen Symposium. They show outstanding track records in the particular fields they work or study. They are hand-selected by the International Students’ Committee. It is not possible to apply for membership in the Knowledge Pool.   About the Essay We expect a professional, creative and thought-provoking essay. Be bold, unconventional, and distinctive on the competition question.   Topic Collaborative Advantage: what should be written into a new intergenerational contract? The idea of a “generational contract” embodies the principles that younger and older generations rely on each other to provide mutual support across different stages of their lives. Inclusive education systems, sustainable welfare states and meaningful environmental action are some of many challenges requiring a cross-generational collaborative effort. Yet, with the climate crisis, rapid technological change and societal aging in many countries, the generational contract and notions of intergenerational fairness have been challenged. Members of the younger generation are raising their voices as they reflect on how their futures are being compromised by current decision-makers. What’s your specific and actionable idea that should be written into a new generational contract? Choose an area where you see evidence that intergenerational fairness is – or, going forward, will be – challenged and where the generational contract needs to be rewritten. Potential areas include, but are not limited to, business strategy and the economy, inclusive governance and education, the welfare state and health care, environmental sustainability, or the world of work. Describe your problem and offer concrete and practical proposals how inter-generational fairness can be restored or reinvented. Explain your idea’s impact for the future.   Eligibility Enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate programme (master level or higher) in any field of study at a regular university Born in 1992 or later Students on the bachelor level do not fulfil the eligibility criteria and therefore cannot enter the competition. There is no other way to apply for participation and we, therefore, encourage all students to join the competition once they pursue their studies at a graduate level*. You may, however, be eligible if the level of study in your current year is equivalent to the international graduate level which must be confirmed in writing by your university. (*): A graduate degree is any degree that is above a bachelor’s degree. This includes a master’s degree or doctoral degree.   Submission of following documents Copy of passport or other identification (in English for non-Roman languages) Confirmation of matriculation/enrolment from your university which proves your enrollment in a graduate/postgraduate level programme as of 1 February 2022 (download sample document here) Your contribution file with no indication of your name in the file name, the file metadata or the file itself   Fees The participation in the symposium is free for all Leaders of Tomorrow. Moreover, expenses for travel, board and lodging are covered by the ISC. However, we recommend bringing a small amount of pocket money for your convenience.   Prerequisites Form Essay (A maximum of 2,100 words, excluding abstract, bibliography, and footnotes) Language English Deadline 1 February 2022, 11:59 PM last time zone (UTC-12) Anonymity Your name, e-mail address, university, or any identifying details must not be mentioned anywhere in the contribution file. Individuality Individual work is expected, no group work is allowed. The essay must be written exclusively for this contest. The idea must be the author’s own. Citation All sources must be cited and referred to the respective part in the essay. All contributions will be tested for plagiarism. Template Download Template for the Global Essay Competition   Post-Submission Process The ISC will verify your eligibility and check all submitted documents for completeness and readability. For this, the students will be asked to pitch their idea on video beforehand.    Awards 3 awardees will be selected by the jury based on the quality of the idea on paper. The Competition Act guarantees that no enterprise abuses their 'dominant position' in a market through the control of supply, manipulating purchase prices, or adopting practices that deny market access to other competing firms, and the Competition Commission ensures the same. Moreover, through proactive engagement with all stakeholders, including consumers, industry, government and international jurisdictions, the Competition Commission of India aims at establishing a robust competitive environment. The duty of the Commission is to act in accordance with the objectives enumerated under the Competition Act, i.e., to prohibit anti- competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position by enterprises and regulate combinations (acquisition, acquiring of control and M&A), which cause or are likely to cause an appreciable adverse effect on competition within India. The broad objective of the Commission is to create and sustain fair competition in the economy that will provide a ‘level playing field’ to the producers and make the markets more competitive. To this end, the mandate of the CCI includes eliminating practices having adverse effect on competition; inspiring businesses to be fair, competitive and innovative; protection of the interests of consumers, and ensuring freedom of trade in the markets of India. The Commission being a quasi-judicial body is also required to give opinion on competition issues on a reference received from a statutory authority established under any law and to undertake competition advocacy, create public awareness and impart training on competition issues. In order to achieve its objectives, the Commission tends to engage in wide-ranging advocacy programs like that of competition assessment of policies and legislations by collaborating with educational institutions, conducting training sessions, panel discussions and conferences on issues related to competition law and practice, and further, offering internship opportunities to students and young professionals as well as organizing essay writing competitions at national level.   About the Corporate Law Moot Court Competition 2022 The 1st Justice GP Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2021 which was the 1th edition of our flagship moot is an effort aimed at providing an opportunity to hone argumentative skills and to connect experienced professionals with law students at a national level. DME International Moot Court Competition (Virtual), 2022, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University
DME International Moot Court Competition (Virtual), 2022, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

Delhi Metropolitan Education is organizing its DME International Moot Court Competition (Virtual), 2022, scheduled to be held on April 2-3, 2022.   About the University Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was established as Indraprastha University (IPU) on 28th March 1998 by the Govt. of NCT Delhi as a state university under the provisions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998 with its Amendment in 1999. The university was ranked 66 among Indian universities by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019 and 95 in the overall category. The University is recognized by University Grants Commission (India), under section 12B of the UGC Act.   About the College Delhi Metropolitan Education is a premier Educational Institute affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi. The college offers B.A.LLB (H), B.BA.LLB (H), B.A. (JMC) and BBA courses.Since its inception, the college has attained numerous laurels to its credit and has successfully attained a distinguished stature. For two consecutive years it has bagged ‘A - Grade’ Certificate from the G.G.S.I.P.U. The college has numerous societies which are involved in diverse fields & activities ranging from the cultural arts, photography, academics to scholarly events.   About the Competition The moot court proposition covers areas like Sexual Harassment at Workplace, Human Rights, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Corporate Governance and such other global concerns. Violence against women remains devastatingly pervasive and starts alarmingly young. Prominent news headlines grabs our attention towards sexual harassment at the workplace. New data from WHO and partners manifests that across their lifetime, 1 in 3 women, around 736 million, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner – a number that has remained largely unchanged over the past decade. As of 2019, there are approx 19.45% working women in India out of the total female population which is estimated around 48% of the total population. The rate of crime in the workplace against women has been increasing rapidly, not just in our country and also around the globe. In a society where violence against women is posed just to show the patriarchal value operating in society, these values of men pose the greatest challenge in curbing sexual harassment. No female worker is safe and the sense of security is lacking in them. Sexual harassment is rooted in cultural practices and is exacerbated by power relations at the workplace. Unless there is enough emphasis on sensitization at the workplace, legal changes are hardly likely to be successful. Workplaces need to frame their own comprehensive policies on how they will deal with sexual harassment. Instead of cobbling together committees at the court’s intervention, a system and a route of redress should already be in place. As a leading institution of this country, we endeavor to provide budding lawyers the best possible exposure in terms of practical experience, and we believe that by organising such academic events, we strive to achieve that aim. It gives us immense pleasure to extend our heartfelt invite to your esteemed institution to participate and make this event a grand success. This event incites to provide a platform to the students and faculty of law to sharpen their minds and showcase their legal knowledge.   Date and Venue The 1st DME International Moot Court Competition, 2022 will be held from 1st - 3rd April, 2022.   Team Eligibility and Composition Participation is strictly restricted to bona fide law students pursuing three-year or five-year LL.B. and LLM degree courses in any college all over the Globe. The issues and problems with which today’s societies are conflicting have to be taken into consideration when we step into the realm of law. The Centre for South Asian Legal Studies is therefore committed to examine and analyse these issues of utmost relevance while having a comparative approach with the jurisdictions of South Asian Region. The problems of South Asia are common in many disciplines and also in many facets of social, legal and political life. The religious minorities in South Asia have become a focal point of deliberations for their rights are being violated in an extremely unfair manner. People belonging to religious minorities have largely become the target of mob attacks, and persecution by the majoritarian sections of such communities. The state and the constitutional machinery seem to be failed to protect the rights of people therefore defying the very fabric of rule of rule. The international seminar, therefore, is a step towards understanding the very power dynamics which is working in South Asian Region. The land mass has not found its final form and its ecosystem is one of the most fragile in India. In the lap of Western Himalayas lie the states of Jammu & Kashmir (J & K), Himachal Pradesh (HP) and Uttarakhand. These mountainous states have their unique cultural and social systems. These are the states of villages, which are mostly rural. The status of women in any civilization shows the stage of evolution at which the civilization has arrived. The term status includes not only personal and proprietary rights but also duties, liabilities and disabilities. In the case of an Indian woman it means her personal rights, proprietary right, her duties, liabilities and disabilities vis-a-vis the society and her family members. ‘Status’ is correlated to the participatory right and obligations of women in the managing of society; there studies examine the role assigned to them by tradition, religion, ideology and the stage of economic development. The social and political development of women has a direct effect on future. The future world is dependent on their present development. The society has ratified their rights. It was during the twentieth century that the concept of child rights emerged. The rights perspective is embodied in the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly, is often described as an international bill of rights for women, is a landmark in international women rights legislation. It shifted the focus to the ‘rights’. The rights approach is primarily concerned with issues of social justice, non discrimination, equity and empowerment. The Convention provides the basis for realizing equality between women and men through ensuring women's equal access to, and equal opportunities in, political and public life including the right to vote and to stand for election, as well as education, health and employment. The Convention is the only human rights treaty which affirms the reproductive rights of women and targets culture and tradition as influential forces shaping gender roles and family relations. It affirms women's rights to acquire, change or retain their nationality and the nationality of their children. States parties also agree to take appropriate measures against all forms of traffic in women and exploitation of women. Increasing incidents of crime against women, emotional or physical, raising the concern world over. There are women protection laws and policies at the national level to address these kinds of issues, to strengthen women protection system and promoting positive social norms in all contexts to prevent and respond to violence, exploitation and abuse directed at women. The constitution of India granted equality to all sections of society and also authorized the state to do positive discrimination for uplifting deprived sections of Indian society. The fundamental rights and directive principles of state policy are embedded in our constitution for upliftment of deprived sections of society. Irony is, despite so many laws and policies for the protection, women are still at the verge of danger and uncertainties. The challenges this vulnerable group is facing are immense and need to be addressed effectively.   Objectives of the Webinar To explore the Socio-Political-Cultural issues with regard Women in Western Himalayas To explore the socio-political-legal status of women in Western Himalayas To study the implementation of National and International Framework To find out the crime against women in Western Himalayan region To know the impact of cyber world on Polity and Culture of Himalayan Women   Sub-Themes of the Webinar Socio-Political-Cultural issues with regard to Protection of Women in Western Himalayas.
