It also provides the parties with a channel to initiate a dialogue and reach the settlement expeditiously and cost-effectively. Generally, ADR uses a neutral third party who helps the parties to communicate, discuss the differences and resolve the dispute. It is a method which enables individuals and groups to maintain co-operation, social order and provides opportunity to reduce hostility. The main objective of this tournament is to bring out the latent talents of students, providing them with a learning experience and building their competitive spirit. The major issues confronting international policymakers ranges from environmental concerns to a massive humanitarian crisis, global pandemic to hostile governments, unilateral declaration of independence to the controversy on self-determination, refugee crisis to questions on nationality to name a few. DME’s International Conference on Deliberations on Rethinking the Environment: Sustainability in Modern Era
DME’s International Conference on Deliberations on Rethinking the Environment: Sustainability in Modern Era

The Law School of Delhi Metropolitan Education is organizing a two-day International Conference on the theme “Deliberations on Rethinking the Environment: Sustainability in Modern Era” on 25th and 26th March 2022.    About DME Law School, Noida Delhi Metropolitan Education (DME) is an 'A' grade premier educational institute affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), New Delhi. DME imparts education in the fields of Law, Management, and Journalism, with the law courses approved by the Bar Council of India. The institute is housed in a splendid building laced with modern educational facilities, a sine qua non for enhancing students' creativity and capabilities.   About the Conference Nine years remained to the deadline the world had given to itself in the Rio Conference of 1992 for fulfillment Sustainable Development Goals before the recent UN Conference on Climate Change was held in Glasgow. If there was any display of unity between the Global North and the Global South, it was visible in their unanimous agreement of pushing the deadlines further away. Apart from that even today the tussle between the developed and the developing nation remains to be same. There have been numerous conferences and academic discourses undertaken in the last three decades which try to unravel this seemingly impossible balance of conserving the environment and development of nations. The solutions perhaps are also deferred to forever extending deadlines, never to culminate into reality. There were many sterling statements made during the 2021 COP, such as Tuvalu’s Head of the State standing kneedeep in the ocean to highlight the plight of the sinking island due to rise in sea level, however, these statements would only remain to be mere lip service theatrics unless the nations of the world do not materialize the principles of intergenerational equity and collective responsibility towards Environment as an individual being. This Conference aims to bring questions of Intergenerational Equity into sharp relief in the light of the recent developments, global and domestic events that highlight the drawbacks and lacuna of an anthropocentric environmental discourse. We hope to create a space where alternative ideas of environment, distinct from the current one which is revolving around the notions of propriety-ship, may be imagined and discussed. Whether our rivers and forests are the property of the nation or legal personalities in their own sense? Whether this distinct legal personality, which is that of a human being, enough to protect the environment? Whether calling these entities- air, water, living animals, minerals, stones, and rocks as “resources”-defeat our larger scheme of conservation of the environment? These are a few of the many questions that are hoped to be addressed at this Conference. The unresolvable conflict between the Global North and South seems to be a diversion that shadows these extremely pertinent questions poised before our future generations, who perhaps need a re-imagination of Earth and its various natural entities, which have suffered massive exploitation with incomprehensible reparations.   Important Dates Last date for submission of Abstract: 31 January 2022 Last date for Submission of Full Article: 28 February 2022 Final listing of accepted papers: 06 March 2022 Date of Conference: 25 and 26 March 2022   Mode of Conference The conference will be conducted in hybrid mode with both online and offline components. Subsequently, with the enactment of other environmental laws the responsibility to implement the provisions of such laws was also entrusted to the Punjab Pollution Control Board in the State of Punjab. In order to have uniform laws, all over the country for broad environmental issues endangering the health & safety of our people as well as of our flora and fauna and also to check environmental degradation, the Parliament of India has enacted the following laws: The Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 as amended to date The Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Cess Act, 1977 The Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 as amended to date The aforesaid laws have been adopted by the Govt. of Punjab to control environmental pollution in the State. Punjab Pollution Control Board has been entrusted the task of implementation of environmental laws in the State of Punjab.   About Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, New Delhi The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute became bi-national in 2005. It has the honour of being the only Institution which has One Hundred Thirty One(131) premier academic Institutions as its members in India (including IITs, IIMs, NITs, Law schools, Central and State Universities) and Thirty Eight(38) universities in Canada (including McGill, Queen’s and York Universities). The Shastri Institute is funded by and partners closely with government bodies both in India and Canada. The aim is to further the bi-national ethos through different programmes facilitating scholarly research and exchanges between the Indian and Canadian Universities, Cultural organisations, Government Bodies and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.   About Assam Don Bosco University "Preferential option for the poor" has impelled us in all our educative interventions at the school and college levels. The same choice now calls us to enter a new field to provide university studies to so many youth, disadvantaged because of poor economic and social conditions. We are called to accompany the young in the crucial moments of their life. University study is a time in their life in which they make the more important decisions for their future. Vocational orientation in the fundamental choices of their life or profession is required most at this stage. There is a need for a presence of the Salesian Congregation in those environments in which social change, especially in relation to youth is being promoted. We spend so much of our time, energy and means in reacting, counteracting and correcting negative youth culture. Preventive System calls us to be present in the very places where such culture is created. A University, together with the Colleges we already run (32 in India), can contribute to the qualified formation of youth for entry into the world of work and for their responsible involvement in society in such as way that their involvement goes beyond the demands and needs of the market and produce changes and new developments in society itself.   Vision of the Conference Urbanization and modernization have greatly influenced the interaction between man and environment in the recent times. Man’s ability to exploit nature and her resources indiscriminately is responsible for the environmental crisis of the planet Earth. The excessive consumption of scarce resources, huge amount of garbage, ozone layer depletion, and various types of pollution and extinction of species are among the major environmental problems. Nature stirs creative minds to write about the hungry tides, floods, fissured lands, unquiet woods, creatures great and small, belated spring, dust bowl, bio-piracy, violence of green revolution, environmental injustice and climate change. This environmental literature also emerges from protests like Chipko movement, Narmada Bachao Andolan. It reinforces the interconnectedness between living beings and their surroundings. Environmental education can sensitize one and all regarding the efforts and skills required to improve the quality of the ecosystem. The modern environmental movement dates back to the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring (1962). Carson’s writing raises an alarm against the harmful effects of the contentious use of insecticides. She talks about the irresponsible acts of human beings that could silence the Earth. The changing relationship of human beings with the natural world gives rise to an array of fictional and nonfictional writings. The writings on endangered Earth engage human minds with ecological issues. Eco-criticism explores the environmental dimensions of literature. Eco-criticism converges with its sister disciplines in humanities, history, anthropology, philosophy, ethics, law, religious studies, political science, geography, sociology and others, to understand the ethics of human environmental interactions. Lawrence Buell traces environmental imagination and ecological ethics in the literary works of various American writers. He asserts that discourses on landscapes and toxicity can propel transformation in the environmental consciousness. Environmentalists and writers across disciplines reflect on the endangered existence of human beings, locally and globally. Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Donald Worster, Walt Whitman, Ramachandra Guha,Vandana Shiva, Amitav Ghosh, Arundhati Roy, Indira Sinha, Lakshmi Thiripurasundari, Syed Abdul Malik, Madhav Gadgil, Anupam Mishra, N K Sukumaran Nair, Barbara Kingsolver, Clara Hume, J.M. International Research Conference on Insolvency and Bankruptcy, IIMA and IBBI
International Research Conference on Insolvency and Bankruptcy, IIMA and IBBI

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) & Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) are organising an International Research Conference on Insolvency and Bankruptcy.   Call for Research Papers 2022 The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC / Code) is a noble law as it is designed to take care of a person who needs it most, whether it is a company, a LLP, a proprietorship, or partnership firm, or an individual. Over the past five years, the Code, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), the Adjudicating Authorities (the NCLT) and the Appellate Authority (the NCLAT) for the matters under the Code have had an eventful journey, including that of handling COVID-19 pandemic induced disruptions. Starting from the implementation of the Code, setting up of new organisation and complete infrastructure to handle insolvency activities, the Indian regulatory environment for insolvency and bankruptcy of corporates, to start with, has witnessed a remarkable transition from an archaic resolution and liquidation process to a modern one attempting and facilitating faster resolution of distressed companies and assets. The Supreme Court of India has been proactively clarifying a number of provisions of the Code as they have arisen during the course of its implementation. Having undergone six amendments since its enactment, the Code continues to be a work in progress. Insolvency resolution regime is an important part of well-governed polity and efficient economy. It enables creation of an environment that is conducive for entrepreneurship and appropriate risk taking, while safeguarding creditors, as well as providing expertise and service for businesses and persons facing financial stress. There is now a growing body of literature that aims to address the gaps between the theoretical aspects of insolvency law and its practice and impact on the ground. Academic knowledge, evidence and expertise can help inform, design, improve and test policy and ultimately make government policy better. Deep research can bring together evidence to support policy makers in achieving real world outcomes. This includes development and use of a sound evidence base through robust and continuous research. It is crucial to continue to study the impact of the insolvency framework created by the IBC, look at its future, investigate its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats on a regular basis. Deep research can identify how the framework will need to adapt to meet future challenges and how the policy and regulatory framework may complement the ‘ease of doing business’ aspirations of the country. To promote research and discourse in the field of insolvency and bankruptcy, the two-day international research conference calls upon academics & researchers, lawyers, economists, regulators, to submit research proposals.   Topics for the conference This conference is an opportunity to understand the importance and impact of IBC in its totality through the multi-disciplinary research papers. Research that aims to understand the legal, economic, financial, behavioural and management aspects of the IBC are welcomed. A field wise classification of potential research topics under the Indian insolvency and bankruptcy space- i.e., in relation to the IBC is listed below. Several studies maybe inter-disciplinary in nature hence cannot be isolated to fall under a single field of study and researchers are encouraged to explore the interdisciplinary nature as well. Economic /Financial Impact of IBC on credit channels and bond markets Sectoral analysis of effectiveness of IBC IBC and economic growth Assessing outcomes and impact of the IBC Developing a framework for assessing outcomes of insolvency regimes Insolvency law during COVID-19 Early warning of stress in a corporate Managing Interim Finance MSME Stress and efficacy of Pre-packs Resolvability Assessment Framework Stress in MSME Sector and Prepacks Dealing with Interim Finance Role of Asset Reconstruction Companies as resolution applicant NPA v/s default: Corelation and time lag Legal Balancing interests of stakeholders under processes under the Code Operationalisation of Part III of the IBC: Issues and Challenges Legislative framework for cross border insolvency: Lessons for India Pre-packaged insolvency resolution: Learnings for India Comparative analysis of insolvency laws across the globe Group Insolvency Streamlining the processes under the Code Valuations for insolvency and bankruptcy Streamlining voluntary liquidation processes Role of mediation in the insolvency process across the jurisdictions Assessing Section 29A of the IBC Behavioral Code of conduct for the committee of creditors Observing and measuring behavioral change among stakeholders of IBC Technological developments and integration with IBC Development of platform for distressed assets Interaction of IBC and its pillars (IBBI, Information Utilities, Insolvency Professionals, Adjudicating Authority) Management Effectiveness of IBC’s institutional structures – IBBI, IPs, AA, and IUs Interaction of IBC with other laws (FEMA, SEBI, Arbitration and Conciliation Act) Fairness and equity in corporate processes under the Code Developing a market for distressed assets   Venue Conference will be held physically at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad campus during 30th April, 2022 to 1st May, 2022.   Participants The conference is open to individuals from all disciplines interested and involved in insolvency and bankruptcy process and its multi-disciplinary issues. Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Nagpur is organizing a National Seminar on Identification of Abusive Relationships and Prevention of Domestic Violence, scheduled to be held in a hybrid mode, on January 30, 2022.   About Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur Nurtured by the visionary ideas of Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, Chancellor, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) on the principles of vedic thought ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means ‘World as One Family’, Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Nagpur is established to inherit splendid novelty, dynamism and excellence in education. Being a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur is strategically located in the potential education hub of Maharashtra thereby offering multitude of opportunities for the budding lawyers. The School is in a constant attempt to improve itself and as a result engages in a plethora of knowledge generating activities making it one of the most sought after institutions in the country.   About the National Commission for Women, New Delhi The National Commission for Women was set up as statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 to: review the Constitutional and Legal safeguards for women; recommend remedial legislative measures; facilitate redressal of grievances and advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women. Since its inception, the Commission has initiated various steps to improve the status of women and worked for their economic empowerment. The Commission provides financial support for organizing Seminars/Conferences/ Workshops/ Webinars to Colleges, Universities, State Commissions for Women etc. with the objective of getting an insight into the relevant subject and also throwing up recommendations for better implementation or even modification of the existing policies/programmes/schemes/projects relating to welfare and empowerment of women. Such programmes also provide a forum for sharing knowledge, information and experience of participants and resource persons on the subject. Such experience sharing could be helpful in better dissemination of the required information and also lead to better execution of schemes, etc. at the ground level.   About the Seminar Women in a domestic space often are vulnerable and subjected to abuse in the background of the patriarchal norms. Sec. 3 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005recognizes ‘abuse’ in a broad perspective including physical abuse, sexual, verbal and emotional abuse, and economic abuse. However, it is usually only the physical and sexual abuse that is addressed seriously. The abuse is in a variegated form, often combination of multiple abuses depending on the age, social strata, economic stability, cultural background in which the woman is situated in. Despite the passage of more than a decade, the number of reported cases of domestic violence have been increasing. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Commission for Women, Delhi registered an increase of 2.5% cases of domestic violence since the national lockdown. The lockdown during the pandemic further deprived women of any possible institutional support in reporting the same. Women suffering from domestic violence, not only require medical aid, but require psychosocial support in the backdrop of possible ostracization once the incident is reported. Even the first responders to the victims sometimes transmit institutionalized patriarchal attitudes. Incidents where the instance of domestic violence is occurring for the first time are often settled so as to protect the honor of the families involved. Unlike other forms of violence, domestic violence is situated with the perpetrator and the victim continuing to share the same physical space. It is in this background; the Seminar is organized with the following objectives: To serve as an effective platform for sharing experiences on the existing legal framework and identify the possible gaps in its effective implementation including the rehabilitative measures. To discuss and analyse the varied abuses that are not recognized by the existing legal framework. To serve as a platform for women from academia, profession and other backgrounds, to discuss the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in domestic spaces and their challenges. To come with suitable suggestions and recommendations in addressing the gaps and lacunae in the existing justice system. The Seminar would be a medium through which activists, professionals, academicians, research scholars and students, collectively discuss on domestic violence, the nature of abuse and the gaps withing the existing legal and justice system. The Seminar with larger goal of awareness and sensitization, would address the same to all the participants through sharing of knowledge and experiences.   Broad Themes Identification and Theorizing abuse within Legal framework Gender as a factor in Abuse and Violence Laws and policies protecting women against domestic violence International framework for curbing Abuse and Domestic violence Judicial responses and trends in interpreting abuse and contexts of domestic violence Enforcement agencies and Institutional responses towards survivors of domestic violence Identifying unrecognized forms of abuse and violence in domestic spaces Impact of COVID-19 pandemic in survivors’ access to justice Community participation and Role of civil society in curbing abuse and domestic violence The above-mentioned themes are only indicative and any paper relevant to the main theme of the seminar may be submitted.   Guidelines to Authors All the papers shall be reviewed by a team of experts and the notification of acceptance of the full paper for presentation shall be communicated within 02 days.
