Shri N J Yasaswy Memorial National Moot Court Competition, ICFAI University

Faculty of Law, ICFAI University, Ranchi, Jharkhand is organizing the Shri N J Yasaswy Memorial National Moot Court Competition in a virtual mode, from December 18 to 20, 2021. About the University The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, Jharkhand popularly known as The ICFAI University Jharkhand. The University under sub- Section (2) of Section 4 of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University Act, 2006 (Jharkhand Act 08, 2007).The University, is included in the list of universities maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, vide Notification No.F.8-17/2009 (CPP-I) dated December 16, 2009. About the Faculty of Law The Faculty of Law – FOL, a constituent of the ICFAI University, Jharkhand with an objective of developing a new generation of legal professionals through comprehensive and contemporary body of knowledge in integrating law with management. FOL offers BBA-LL.B (Hons.) and LL.B programs. The Faculty of law, ICFAI University Jharkhand is dedicated to serve and committed towards the overall development of students by emphasizing on various extra-curricular activities and assigns a significant role to moot courts. By following the standards of absolute impartiality, transparency and efficiency, it strives to not only organize but also motivate the students to participate in the moot court competitions and we intend that these kinds of extra circular activities would also help the students in practical court of law. General Information These rules are made for the virtual national moot court competition organized by The ICFAI University, Jharkhand. The moot court competition will be held from 18th December, 2021 to 20th December, 2021. The Organising Committee (OC) shall function as the point of contact, and any changes in the Rules of the Competition shall be notified by mail to all participating teams. The Competition shall be conducted in accordance with the rules mentioned hereunder. Participants are required to comply with the rules and procedures prescribed herein. The official e-mail for all correspondence concerning the Competition is [email protected]. Language The official language for the Moot Court Competition shall be English only. Eligibility Students of three-year or five-year integrated law degree or of post graduate law courses from any University/ Law School/ College/ Department are eligible to participate in the Competition. Two teams can participate from the same University/ Law School/ College/ Department. Attire Male Participants: Black Trousers, White Shirt, Black Blazer, Black neck tie and Black formal shoes. Female Participants: Black Trousers/Skirt, White Shirt, Black Blazer, Black neck tie and Black formal shoes (or) White Salwar Kameez, Black Blazer and Black Formal shoes. Team Composition Each Team may consist either two members, comprising two speakers or three members, comprising two speakers and one researcher. Any alteration in the status of the team members, whether as a speaker or researcher, must be informed through mail to [email protected]. If any team is willing to alter the team composition, can do so by intimating the organizing committee via e-mail ten days before the competition. Any such requests after the given time shall not be entertained except in case of unprecedented circumstances. The inability of any team member to participate in accordance with the rules of this Competition shall lead to immediate disqualification of the Team from the Competition. Participation and Registration Procedure The teams interested in participating are required to confirm their participation by filling up the Google form. A confirmatory e-mail, together with the team code, shall be sent to such a Team on December 6th 2021. Thereafter, all the registered teams shall identify and refer themselves using the allotted team code only for all further correspondence with the organizing committee. Registration Fee Each Participating Team is required to pay INR 1000/- (One Thousand Rupees) towards Registration via online account transfer. The timeline of the event is attached herein above. The Competition shall consist of the following Oral Pleading Sessions: The Preliminary Rounds, The Quarter Final Rounds, The Semi-Final Rounds, The Final Round The Teams participating in a Round will be provided with a soft copy of the opposing Team's Written Submission prior to the Oral Pleading Session. Technical Rules The Competition will be conducted using online live video conferencing platform. The details of the platform shall be shared with the teams via mail. To ensure the smooth functioning of the competition, in adherence to the rules of Social Distancing and Government Guidelines, all participants will participate from their respective places. Invitation link of the meetings including the link to join the courtroom shall be sent to participants on their respective Email IDs submitted by them in Registration Form and through WhatsApp prior to each round. The Participants are expected to be seated in a quiet space free from any echo and isolated from any form of disturbances. The Participants must make sure that the Background is plain and sober which does not disturb the judges. Preference will be given to a White background. The participants should make necessary preparations before entering the meeting room i.e., downloading the required Application and ensuring that their device is compliant to the terms mentioned. The participants should only use their team code as their username while joining the meeting room. All participants shall join at least five (5) minutes prior to the commencement of their round. In case any team fails to join the Court Room within five (5) minutes of its commencement, the opposite team shall proceed ex -parte. During the ongoing proceedings the participants must keep their video on throughout its duration. When a speaker is making his/her submissions, other participants shall keep their microphones on mute. In case a participant is found disturbing the other participant in any way, he/she may be disqualified. No additional documentation or screen sharing will be allowed and any information which has to be provided to the court should be submitted beforehand along with the Compendium and the Memorial. In case internet connection of Speaker 1 is lost or if that Speaker faces any other difficulty in connecting, a time limit of ten (10) minutes shall be given to that speaker to reconnect. After ten (10) minutes, Speaker 2 will take over to put forth his arguments. If Speaker 1 fails to reconnect, the team shall be marked on the basis of arguments put forth by Speaker 2 and Speaker 1 only if he has put forth any arguments before disconnection. The Organizers shall not be responsible for any loss due to slow or non - functional Internet Connection during the Competition. In any case whatsoever, the decision of the Organizing Committee shall be final and binding. Result The results shall be announced shortly after each round. The decision of the judges in the rounds shall be final. For all purposes and in any dispute, the decision of the Organizing Committee of the Competition shall be final and binding. The result of final round shall be announced at the valedictory ceremony, to be held on December 20th 2021. Awards Winning Team Award – The winning Team will receive a cash prize and each member will receive a Certificate of Achievement. Runner-Up Team Award –The runner-up Team will receive a cash prize and each member will receive a Certificate of Achievement. Award for the Best Speaker – The Best Speaker will receive a cash prize and a Certificate of Achievement. Award for the Best Memorial – The Team will receive a cash prize and each member will receive a Certificate of Achievement. Gautam Buddha University or GBU School of Law, Justice and Governance is organizing PN Mathur Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2022, scheduled to be held from February 5 to 6, 2022. About Gautam Buddha University Gautam Buddha University, established by the Uttar Pradesh Act (9) of 2002, commenced its first academic session at its 511 acres lush green campus at Greater Noida in August 2008. The University is fully funded by the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), the undertakings of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under UGC Act and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. The School of Law, Justice, & Governance administers a five years Integrated B.A. LLB program. This Programme has been approved by the Bar Council of India. About the School of Law, Justice & Governance Gautam Buddha University-which has been legislatively conceived as “a center of excellence”-has started its ambitious multidisciplinary academic program with the establishment of its School of Law, Justice & Governance in 2011. Moot Court Competition Guidelines Participation and Eligibility The Competition is open to all bona fide regular students enrolled in any undergraduate law course or its equivalent in any University or Institute within or outside India recognized by the Bar Council or State Government or Central Government as the case may be. Each team shall comprise three members i.e. two speakers and one researcher. A team may also be comprised of two members i.e. two speakers only. The composition of the team shall not be changed once a team has registered under any circumstances whatsoever. The members of the team must be designated as either ‘Speaker’ or ‘Researcher’ and such designation shall be conveyed to the Administrators at the time of registration. No researcher under any circumstances shall be allowed to present any arguments during the Oral Rounds. Changes in the aforementioned designations shall not be made without a request by the responsible Faculty in Charge or Head of the Institution or Department of the Team seeking such change, as the case may be. The discretion to allow or disallow such change shall solely rest with the administrators depending upon the reasonability of the cause shown, stage of the Competition, and compliance with the aforementioned rules. No additional member or team coach besides the three or two members, as the case may be, shall be recognized as a participant and be allowed to attend the Oral Rounds. Due to the pandemic we are unsure whether the event will be offline or online. if the situation allows it will be organized offline otherwise it will be conducted online. In the case of online mode, your additional accommodation fees will be refunded to your respective bank accounts. About the Webinar A print disability is a learning disability, a visual impairment or a physical disability due to which individuals with such disability cannot access print in the standard way. For them, a work is perceived by either visual or auditory (or both) senses. The persons with print disability find themselves at an absolute disadvantage with protected works perceivable only through print format. Individuals with cognitive disabilities express difficulty in processing complex information, requiring a transformation of material into more easily understood forms. The Marrakesh Treaty seeks to dismantle copyright barriers by requiring countries which ratify the Treaty to make an exception to domestic copyright law for visually impaired and print disabled people. Indian Copyright Law has adopted the similar provisions in 2012. There are many assistive technologies which helps people with disability to learn, communicate and function better. According to the “WIPO Technology Trends Report 2021: Assistive Technologies”, over 1 billion people currently need assistive technology - a figure expected to double in the next decade as populations age. However globally, only 1 in 10 people currently have access to the assistive products they need. The report shows that innovations, ranging from small improvements in existing products to cutting-edge developments in frontier technologies, can greatly improve the lives of persons with functional limitations. The Tech Trends report identified more than 130,000 patents related to conventional and emerging assistive technologies published between 1998 and mid-2020. Intellectual property has enabled the growth in innovation in assistive technologies. However, there is a requirement of making these technologies more inclusive. In this webinar, we aim to discuss about the rights of the persons with disabilities with Copyright Amendment Act, 2012 and Marrakesh Treaty, to understand the reality of accessibility of the Reading Material to the person with disability as well as assistive technologies and their inclusiveness with respect to the patents. About Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) is a public law school and a National law University in Patna, Bihar, India. About the Webinar Bihar is a state which is the least developed as compared to other states of India. The condition of women in India is also not up to the mark since most of the population of Bihar population are belonging to Villages. If we see the health profile of this state, then we come to know that Bihar has the lowest health profile. There are various reasons behind it and pregnancy is also one of the reasons behind it. If we talk about the rights of women in the context of pregnancy in India there is no appropriate law for it. In about 70 years of Independence of India, women are working in many sectors parallel to the men. In the context of Reproductive Rights, judgments of Puttaswamy, recognize the constitutional right of the women which give freedom to make their reproductive choices. It is covered under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution (Justice K S Puttaswamy v Union of India 2012a: para 72, 2012b: para 46, 2012c: para 38). The bench also reiterated the position adopted by a three-judge bench in Suchita Srivastava v Chandigarh Administration (2009), which held that reproductive rights include a woman’s entitlement to carry a pregnancy to its full term, to give birth, and to subsequently raise children; and that these rights form part of a woman’s right to privacy, dignity, and bodily integrity. But things are very much different in reality. If we talk about life expectancy, it is higher in developed countries as compared to India. In India, we can see that the expectancy of females is not the same as the women of developed countries which indicate the poor health of women in India. This poor health might be due to different reasons and reproductive choice is one of them. One big issue of Indian society is that the choice of getting a son and these things are governed by the elder of the family. Such practices of getting a son as a baby are very common in northern India especially in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. This proposed webinar will focus on the condition of women particularly in the context of their rights in reproductive choice in different districts of Bihar. 1st Online National Moot Court Competition, Department of Laws, Panjab University

The Department of Laws, Panjab University is organizing its 1st Online National Moot Court Competition, scheduled to be held from December 11 to 12. About the Organiser The Department of Laws, Panjab University was originally established at Lahore in 1889, re- established at Shimla in 1948, and finally re-located at the University Campus at Chandigarh in 1959. Its Alumni include Judges of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and High Courts, Union Cabinet Ministers, State Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers and other legal luminaries. IDIA ( Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) Hyderabad Chapter is organizing a National Essay Writing Competition on various themes. They encompass a spectrum of civil, political, economic and social rights, ranging from the rights to health and life, to the rights to equality and non-discrimination, privacy, information, and to be free from torture or ill-treatment. In other words these rights include access to contraception, the right to a legal and safe abortion, the right to make decisions concerning reproduction free of discrimination, coercion and violence, the right to not be subject to harmful practices such as the coerced bearing of children (including with their spouse); and equal entitlement of LGBTQ persons to the same sexual and reproductive health services as all other groups The recognition of reproductive rights can be found in various international instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW); the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR); the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR); and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). India being a signatory to these instruments, owes an obligation to respect these rights in letter and spirit. Further in recent time we can find various judgments of constitutional courts which have provided the strong foundation for the recognition of reproductive rights of women. A decade ago the Supreme Court in the Suchita Srivastava V. Chandigarh Administration, 2009 (9) UJ 4151, upheld that woman’s right to make reproductive choices is a dimension of personal liberty as understood under Art. 21 of the Constitution of India and refused to recognize any restriction to curtail the right. Recently in Justice K S Puttaswamy v Union of India the Supreme Court has specifically recognised the constitutional right of women to make reproductive choices, as a part of personal liberty under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. This judicial pronouncement as to women’s autonomy to take informed decisions regarding their own bodies, fertility, and reproduction is likely to impose variety of challenges specifically with respect to abortion, surrogacy and involuntary sexual intercourse within the marital relationship. The right to reproductive healthcare is one of the important facet of reproductive rights the enforcement of which is hampered by various issues including maternal mortality and morbidity, unsafe abortion and poor quality of post-abortion care, lack of access to the full range of contraceptive methods and reliance on coercive and substandard female sterilization, child marriage, and lack of information and education on reproductive and sexual health. Further the decriminalization of the same sex relationship is likely to lead demand of reproductive rights by those in such relationship. About Constitution Day Constitution Day also known as National Law Day, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted to the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on 26 January 1950. The Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day on 19 November 2021 by a gazette notification. Constitution Day of India aims to bring awareness on the importance of the Indian Constitution and its architect, Dr BR Ambedkar. The Constitution Day is celebrated as a mark of tribute to India's first Law Minister BR Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in drafting the Indian Constitution. This day was chosen to spread the importance of the constitution and to spread thoughts and ideas of Ambedkar. UILS is organising quiz to create awareness about the importance of Indian Constitution. Eligibility The competition is open to all the students pursuing a Bachelor's/Master's/PG degree or Certificate course from any affiliated University/College/Institute. The competition is also open to the school students (9-12 classes). No restriction on the number of entries from one University/College/Institute. There is No Registration Fee for the Competition. Scheme of Quiz There will be no negative marking for the quiz. All the questions in the quiz will be in the Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ’s) format. The participant who submits the quiz earlier will be preferred in case of a tie between participants. The participants registering for the quiz via the Google Registration form will receive a confirmation mail from our side. The Confirmation mail will have the link to join the WhatsApp Group upon which all the important updates regarding the quiz and the link of the competition will be sent. Mode of Quiz The quiz will be played via Google Forms. The Link for the quiz will be sent on the WhatsApp Group so formed for the quiz. The link for joining the WhatsApp group for the Quiz will be sent in the confirmation mail, once the participant successfully submits the registration form for the same. Organizers will not be responsible for any technical error in the registration for the quiz competition or any connectivity/device failure during the Quiz. Rounds Round-1 All participants are required to attempt the Round 1 of the Quiz via Google Form Link sent on the WhatsApp Group made for the purpose. National Level Essay Writing Competition on “Issues and Challenges to address Child Abuse in India”, Ramaiah College of Law

The Centre for Women and Child Welfare Policy of Ramaiah College of Law is organizing a National Level Essay Writing Competition for Students on the topic of Child Abuse. About the College Ramaiah College of Law, Bengaluru was established under the aegis of Gokula Education Foundation in 1995 with the approval of the Bar Council of India. We at Ramaiah College of Law, strive to uphold our standard of excellence by offering value-based legal education and training to our students to equip them to be professionally-competent and socially-committed legal professionals. In the year 2020, the college embarked upon another phase of its academic journey by completing 25 years of its experience and achievements. About the Competition Aligned with the vision of Ramaiah College of Law, the Centre for Women and Child Welfare Policy (CWCWP) was established to promote research, learning and training in areas related to women and child welfare. As the objective suggests, the Centre would like to take an initiative in organizing an activity regarding child issues. As per the reports of the World Health Organization (2020), ‘Globally, it is estimated that up to 1 billion children aged 2-17 years, have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional violence or neglect in the past year’ (https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/violence-against-children). Hence, it is our moral and legal duty to ensure their safety and security. While we celebrate Children’s Day, we members of the legal fraternity cannot be passive onlookers to the atrocities against children. Let us take a moment to examine some of the issues relating to children. The Centre for Women and Child Welfare Policy of Ramaiah College of Law is organizing a National Level Essay Writing Competition for Students on the topic of Child Abuse. Topic “Issues and Challenges to address Child Abuse in India”. Rules and Guidelines It is an Essay Writing Competition open only for UG Students of Law. The Essay should be written only in English. The Essay should be an original piece of work and must NOT have been published anywhere else. The Essay must be word processed preferably using Microsoft Word, using double line spacing, with each page numbered. DO NOT include any pictures. The Essay should NOT exceed 2000 words. [Excluding References]. The Essay must be typed on A4 size electronic page. The font should be in Times New Roman, and the size of the font should be 12. The participants can use BLUE BOOK CITATION OR APA 6TH EDITION REFERENCE style for their Essay. Only one paper per participant must be submitted. Maximum authors for each paper can be only two. In the case of two authors of a winning Essay, the prize money shall be shared between them. The entry for the Essay Writing Competition must be sent by filling up the Registration link. The participant’s name or any of their identification should NOT be reflected either on the essay cover page or anywhere else in their word document, so that the Essay can be judged without knowing who the participant is. All entries should be the original work of the participant. Any participant found violating rules and regulations will be disqualified from the Competition.
