RGNUL and RGNIIPM (Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management) are organizing a Webinar on Patents, Designs and Functional Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights Law scheduled to be held on September 27, 2021   About RGNUL The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL) is an autonomous National Law University (NLU) established by the RGNUL Act (No. 12 of 2006) passed by the legislature of the State of Punjab, under the second wave of reforms instituted by the Bar Council of India. Established in 2006, RGNUL has garnered a pan-India reputation as a stellar institution for legal research and education. In May 2015, RGNUL became the first and the only NLU to have accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an ‘A’ grade. In March 2018, RGNUL was amongst the four NLUs to have been granted an autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC)   About RGNIIPM The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management has been established at Nagpur as a National center of excellence for training, management, research, education in the field of Intellectual Property (IP) Rights. The main objectives of this institute are to cater to the need of training of Examiners of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indications, IP professionals, IP managers, imparting basic education to user communities, government functionaries and stakeholders involved in creation, commercialization and management of intellectual property rights, facilitate research on IP related issues including preparation of study reports and policy analysis of relevance to Government. Apart from this, the Rajiv Gandhi NIIPM addresses the needs of increasing the general awareness and understanding of Government officers and users of IP systems including in universities and other educational institutions.   About CIIPR CIIPR is a recent initiative of RGNUL, Punjab under the able leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Kumar Vats with an aim to provide education and training opportunities in the field of IPR and also foster research activities amongst the student body. The Centre has already begun undertaking innovative projects such as the National Competition on Legal Innovation & Legal Startups – 2021, "Promoting the Culture of Legal Entrepreneurship" in collaboration with Legal StartUps, New Delhi.   About the Workshop Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with special reference to patent plays a vital role in enhancing the socio–economic prosperity of the country. The economic functioning of IPR can be thought of as minimization of transaction costs (search, bargain, and enforcement) and the optimization of time to fruition and avoidance of duplication. One can agree that the first best IPR policies are not only to minimize the transaction costs and conflict of interests but they provide incentives to invest in innovation which in turn maximizes the wealth of a nation. Hence, it enhances motivation to disseminate scientific and technological information which in turn stimulates research and development for the improvement of the quality of life. In India, patent applications can be filed by a patent agent or an individual having some scientific and technical background to understand the invention. However, no one can understand the invention better than the inventors themselves. Document preparation requires healthy discussions between the inventor and agent. For inventors, a good understanding of patent writing style cåtly facilitate the documentation process. Before filing the patent application inventor must be sure that the subject is eligible for patent protection, the invention has something new, the invention is not obvious and is not easily predictable from the general consensus, and the invention has practical application. Thus, there is a need to create large public awareness about the pivotal role of IPR in the globalized knowledge economy with special reference to patent drafting and its filing procedure. With this view to create awareness on the significance of patenting to the people from various sectors in the country, the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and Government of India, is organizing an online Workshop on Patent Drafting, on 27 September 2021, from 3-4PM. International Conference on ‘Future of ADR: Contemporary Issues and Challenges
International Conference on ‘Future of ADR: Contemporary Issues and Challenges

HPNLU Shimla is organizing an International Conference on ‘Future of ADR: Contemporary Issues and Challenges’, scheduled to be held from November 27 to 28.   About Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla was established by an Act of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in the year 2016 (Act 16 of 2016). In the five years of its foundation, HPNLU, Shimla has seen tremendous growth and has undertaken a good number of innovative measures to enhance its academic potential. Led by the visionary scholar of law, the Vice-Chancellor (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, the University has been very proactive in organizing a series of events encompassing a wide spectrum of socio-legal issues. Despite the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, HPNLU, Shimla has been at the forefront of using digital platforms to raise awareness about issues as far spread as Fundamental Duties, Reproductive Rights of Women, Human Rights and Access to Justice etc.   About Center for ADR and Professional Skills (CADR) The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution and Professional Skills (CADR) primarily aims to promote research in the field of dispute resolution mechanisms in India. The Centre aims to provide a platform for interaction between professionals in the field and the students. In pursuance of its goal of conditioning the law students to efficiently resolve disputes, the Centre is proposing this event intending to establish it as a flagship event of Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (HPNLU), as we believe such events and competitions are the need of the hour to minimize the suffering and provide students with platforms and opportunities to nurture the future members of the Indian Legal Fraternity by enabling them to face the dynamic Indian Justice System.   About the International Conference Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution and Professional Skills (CADR) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) is organizing an International Conference (Virtual) on “Future of Alternative Dispute Resolution: Contemporary Issues and Challenges” and proudly invites keynote speakers and presenters on e-platform from every part of the country to present their paper and express their precious views on the topic and sub-theme. The conference aims to provide a platform for discussion on the Future of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Modern World its prospects and challenges. To trace the roots of ADR, we should look at our anthropological and sociological studies to have an idea about how early humans may have resolved disputes without the use of fists, clubs, or spear-arrows. Many of the following ways are quite different from the modern techniques of dispute resolution. Nevertheless, these modern techniques have come into existence because of these primitive ways. The process of arbitration is not alien to India. It always had been practised since time immemorial. In India, people believed in resolving disputes within the four walls because this was somewhere considered as an element to protect their dignity and personality in society. Hence, the mechanism has gained significance in India since ancient times. As the Chief Justice N. V. Ramana has said, “Mahabharata, actually provides an example of an early attempt at mediation as a conflict resolution tool. Lord Krishna attempted to mediate the dispute between the Pandavas and Kauravas. It may be worthwhile to recall that the failure of mediation led to disastrous consequences.” The concept of ADR is of great significance at present when disputes are increasing and courts of the biggest republic country are facing a vast backlog of cases. The word ‘Alternative' can be misinterpreted to imply that something is not right with the present system. The word “Alternative” is, therefore, a misnomer and has been misunderstood by the Bench and the Bar to the extent that Arbitration and Mediation are felt to be a substitute for the present legal system. Arbitration and mediation are necessary in the present time especially in India where 30 million cases are reportedly pending. The entire objective of ADR is to bring speedy justice and to reduce the backlogs of Public Interest Litigation and many Criminal cases so that the Judges are free to apply their minds and devote their time to other important matters having National & Constitutional Significance.   Theme of the International Conference Future of Alternative Dispute Resolution: Contemporary Issues and Challenges   Sub-Themes Role of courts in International Arbitration. Selecting an Arbitral Seat: Key Consideration. Jurisdiction-specific issues in Arbitration. Evidence in International Arbitration Procedure. India as an International Commercial Arbitration Hub: The Challenges. Is Alternative Dispute Resolution a Privatized Justice? Alternative Dispute Resolution and Criminal Justice System. India's instance on International Centre for Settlement of Investment Dispute (ICSID) Convention in relation to Banking. Need for Laws governing Mediation in India. The emerging importance of Environment Social Governance (ESG) & its impact on the International Arbitration. Cross Border Partnership and collaboration in International Arbitration. The Role Diverse Bar Associations Play in Increasing DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) in ADR. Arbitration and Technology: Blockchain Arbitration and Smart Contracts. Note:- Author(s) are at their discretion to choose any other sub-theme for their paper that is related to the theme of the Conference.   Guidelines for Paper Submission The title of the paper should be followed by Name, Designation, Name of the Organization / University / Institution, Email address and contact details along with an Abstract not more than 300 words. National Interdisciplinary Webinar On Reforming Mining Law in Tune with SDGs - 2030
National Interdisciplinary Webinar On Reforming Mining Law in Tune with SDGs - 2030

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi is organising a National Interdisciplinary Webinar on October 29th-30th, 2021, titled ‘Reforming Mining Law in Tune with SDGs 2030’.   About the Event India is one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia. This growth is thrust by the industrial and the manufacturing sector. The raw materials required for the working of these sectors are provided by the mining industry. Therefore, mining has a huge role to play in the economic development of our country. Moreover, the recent overhauling reforms in the mining sector are intended to boost mineral production and exploration by further increasing the participation of the private sector. The history of regulations on the Mining Industry in India can be traced back to the colonial era. Mining Industry as well as Mining Laws in India lack a global outlook in many respects.  Although the mining sector has a huge role to play in the economic development of the country, it has a hugely detrimental impact on the environment. The key environmental impact of mining is on wildlife and marine life, the local climate, patterns of rainfall, depletion of forest and disruption of ecology. Further, the communities, often socially and economically weaker sections of the population, residing near the mines are displaced and often not rehabilitated as promised by the authorities. Considering this conflict between the need for development and its detrimental impacts on the environment and the communities, in 2015, all the members of the United Nations adopted ‘The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. India, being a member of the United Nations, is expected to achieve these goals and help other countries to achieve the same through global partnerships. Considering the need for the development of the mining industry and its detrimental impacts on the environment and the communities, there is an imminent need to reform the mining industry as well as Mining Laws in our Country in tune with the SDGs to ensure sustainable development of mining in India. *Selected papers will be published in a book ISBN   Sub-Themes for the Seminar Environmental Aspects Mining Laws and Environment Protection Mining and climate change – local and global issues. National Conference on Inclusivity in Law: Multidisciplinary Perspectives
National Conference on Inclusivity in Law: Multidisciplinary Perspectives

SVKM Pravin Gandhi College of Law (PGCL) is organizing a National Conference on Multidisciplinary Perspectives in Law, on October 9th, 2021. About the college SVKM's Pravin Gandhi College of Law is an institution under the aegis of Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal and is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The hallmark of this institution is the adoption of a holistic model of education dedicated to the pursuance of quality education through consistently evolving pedagogy with the objectives of resource generation and knowledge pooling. The institutional milieu is a fountainhead for new perceptions inculcating norms suited to academic and professional excellence. The initiative of academic deliberation by diverse stakeholders is an effective tool for generating novel ideas. In pursuance of these objectives, SVKM’s Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai is conducting an online One-Day National Conference on Inclusivity in Law: Multidisciplinary Perspectives.   About the Conference Inclusivity, in ordinary parlance, is used to suggest the quality of including people from every stratum of society to ensure equal opportunities to all. In the field of law, inclusivity would mean not only the inclusion of people from all walks of life, but it would also have to ensure the inclusion of all areas of human knowledge and inquiry ever made. A just and fair world does not let anyone live on the fringes, nor does it let any area of inquiry stay outside the domain of law. For law to take that form, it is necessary that all the voices are heard and all knowledge is deliberated over before any policy, program or law is brought in place. Thus, it is incumbent on the members of the legal fraternity to not only be non-discriminatory, but also keep itself up-to-date with new areas of human development and thought; there needs to be a collective sense of responsibility of sharing relevant knowledge to embrace the changing norms with the changing times. Inclusivity in law is an area of both desire and debate. While some foundation is already laid, much needs to be achieved to offer to our citizens a just legal system. Inclusivity in law requires greater participation from across disciplines; we need environmentalists, linguists, educators, medical experts, economists, political theorists, social activists, and artists to share their knowledge and expertise for a legal system that is truly inclusive. Law can be made inclusive by providing an umbrella of protection to all, including the most marginalized. This can be achieved through designing laws that are inclusive and encompassing thereby creating a safe haven for every individual. To achieve this, members of the legal fraternity and members of varied allied fields need to get together to broaden the vision of justice and equality. We need to devote time for reflections aimed at bringing in multidisciplinary perspectives to make laws more applicable, creative, innovative, and thus - just, fair and reasonable.   Aim of the conference The aim of this conference is to offer a comprehensive discourse on the road map towards ensuring inclusivity in law by facilitating a common platform for members of the legal fraternity and all its allied fields. This conference seeks to invite academicians, researchers, legal practitioners, and all the members from the allied fields to offer their insights that would lead to a greater understanding of the world around us so that one can take more informed steps in the deliverance of justice. The conference will be held on an online platform- MS Teams. Necessary guidelines for the use of MS Teams will be shared after registration.   Call for Papers We invite scholarly contributions for publication in a book on the following themes: Inclusive Education Disability and Inclusion Environmental Inclusivity Social Inclusion Caste Discrimination and Social Change Socio-political Dimensions of Gender Inclusivity Political Inclusivity Inclusivity for good governance Peace and Inclusivity Linguistic Diversity and Inclusion Multicultural Societies and Diversity Courts and Inclusivity Justice and inclusivity Developmental Inclusivity The listed themes are merely indicative; any other topic may be covered within the broader ambit of inclusivity in law.   Guidelines for Submission Only original, unpublished papers may be submitted. All the participants should have good access to the internet and be able to access the above said online platform.   Call for Papers   The Organizing Committee is calling for Research Articles from Law Students, Academicians, Lawyers, Social Workers, Policy Makers, and Officials from various Departments- Representatives from Institutions and Professionals; NGO, Social Activists, Social Science Researchers and Faculty and Research Scholars.  The Research Articles received would be published in Proceedings with ISBN.    Aim of the Conference While women represent fifty per cent of the world’s population, they perform nearly two-thirds of the working hours, yet they receive only one-tenth of the world’s income and less than one per cent of the world’s property. Thus, there are grave inequalities between nations and there are also serious inequalities within the nations and everywhere women are lacking in position and power and overrepresented amongst the poor. I cannot resist the temptation of mentioning the most striking and relevant verses of a poem at this stage: “I am the woman who holds up the sky. The rainbow runs through my eyes. The sun makes a path to my womb. My thoughts are in the shape of clouds. But my words are yet to come.” Gender relations need to be measured in the context of participation in and sharing of the important decision-making process that results in the above inequalities. Such a measure would help to identify the differing degrees of inequality in terms of age, income levels and geographical location. For governments and concerned citizens seeking to redress these inequalities, indices are a means of determining the issues on which they must concentrate, and provide feedback on the effectiveness of their actions. Clearly then, the accuracy of any measure of gender inequality needs close scrutiny. Through this Conference, we aim to highlight the gap created between genders and how this gap in many ways violates the Human Rights, as a result of which there comes difficulties in providing Legal Aid. This International National Conference on Human Rights and Gender Justice is organized with an aim to bring together academicians, students, human rights activists and other intellectuals on one platform to discuss the various issues concerning human rights and to discuss the measures to curb such issues.   Sub-Themes  Gender Justice Human Rights of Women and Children Human Trafficking and Bride Trafficking Freedom, Justice, Peace, and Human Rights Today Women in Conflict, Refugee Crisis and Gender Justice Gender sensitivity of the justice delivery mechanisms State responsibility to protect gender discrimination Women’s property and inheritance rights Gender discrimination in marriage and divorce Gender-based violence Role of society in curbing gender injustice Gender injustice on social media Women’s representation and participation in politics/justice Challenges to legal aid for gender protection Legal services for under-trial prisoners, women/child victims of trafficking and juveniles in the juvenile justice system. International Legal Essay Writing Competition & Conference On Labour Laws
International Legal Essay Writing Competition & Conference On Labour Laws

The Journal Committee at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU), in collaboration with Khaitan & Co, is organising the 9th edition of the RMLNLU International Legal Essay Writing Competition along with the RMLNLU-Khaitan & Co Conference on Labour Laws.   About the Competition Every year, the Committee organizes the Competition to promote legal scholarship in contemporary topics. Since its inception in 2013, the Competition has explored diverse issues in topics ranging from international trade laws to financial regulatory laws. Today, it has evolved into a nationally anticipated event. In the last edition, the Committee conducted the Competition on financial regulatory laws in collaboration with Regstreet Law Advisors, a boutique law firm specialising in financial regulation. This year, the Competition will focus on the field of labour law. In a rapidly changing labour landscape with the advent of artificial intelligence, alternative professional avenues and freelancing along with the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe industrial relations and labour regulation need to be revisited. The Committee aims to initiate deeper discourse on pressing and contemporary issues facing global labour law frameworks, and present novel and innovative solutions to the issues faced by all stakeholders.   About RMLNLU RMLNLU was established in 2006 to impart quality legal education to students all over the country and to meet emerging challenges in the field of law. Both these journals publish articles, essays, case notes/comments and book reviews from contributors all over the world. The list of the indicated sub-themes is given below to aid the participants: Invisible Labour & Labour Law Frameworks Invisible labour usually constitutes labour that goes unnoticed, unregulated, and unpaid. This may be in the form of informal sectors of the economy, domestic unpaid labour and sex workers. Lately, there have been attempts to define the term 'invisible labour' in the legal sense. Participants may try exploring whether there is a need to recognize new categories of labour force and if so, may present how the matter can be approached. In addition to scrutinizing existing labour law frameworks, participants may also try conducting comparative studies with other jurisdictions to highlight the best ways to protect the rights of those involved in invisible labour. The Four New Indian Labour Law Codes The Indian Government has recently consolidated 44 labour laws into 4 labour codes. These are the Code on Wages, the Code on Social Security, the Industrial Relations Code and the Occupational, Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code. These labour codes have already received a mixed response from experts in the field and are likely to have far-reaching implications once implemented. Participants may discuss the potential impact of the new labour codes on the creation of employment and the precarity of selfemployed workers. They may additionally compare the labour codes with labour laws of foreign jurisdictions. The Status of Gig Economy Workers in Global Labour Law Frameworks The gig economy refers to a segment of the labour market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs. The rise of the platform-driven gig economy has resulted in a type of relationship between employers and employees which has not been covered under most labour legislations. Participants may try exploring the nature of the relationship between gig economy workers and the companies that utilise their services. Additionally, participants may analyse the International Labour Organization's ("ILO") norms to determine what social security protections and rights the workers ought to be entitled to. Participants may also try exploring topics such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the gig economy at the national and global level. Accounting for Gender & Vulnerable Communities in the Workplace Participants may discuss the gender disparities in the labour market, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional research areas that may be explored include workplace harassment laws, maternity benefits, and the pay gap. Labour law regulations affecting vulnerable grups such as children may also serve as areas of interest. Further, participants may explore the unique position of inter-state labourers and transboundary labour to analyse whether a special framework needs to be made to accommodate their interests. Employment Law - Issues & Concerns A wide range of matters fall within the ambit of employment law. These include individual employment contracts, the application of contract laws, statutory regulations on issues such as the right to organize and negotiate collective bargaining agreements, protection from discrimination, wages, hours, and health and safety. In addition to these topics, the participants may discuss the legal position regarding employee data protection rights. Other areas of interest may include the legality of wage cuts, withheld salaries, and forced unpaid leaves during COVID-19 induced lockdowns. Note: The sub-themes are only indicative. Authors are free to deviate and explore other labour law sub-themes of their own choice.   Eligibility Authors must be pursuing their 5-year integrated LL.B. (Hons.) course / 3-year LL.B. course from any recognised university in India to be eligible to participate in the Competition.   Structure All entries will be judged and ranked by the Committee and Khaitan & Co. The top three entries will be selected for a virtual conference which shall be adjudged by a bench of 3 judges from Khaitan & Co. The final rankings of the authors will be determined on the basis of the paper presentation in the virtual conference. The participants may adopt any suitable means for presenting the papers including audio-visual aids, such as PowerPoint presentations. The top three entries selected for the virtual conference will also be considered for publication in the next issue of the RMLNLU Law Review Journal & the RMLNLU Law Review Blog and will be monetarily rewarded by the Committee. Rewards Winner - INR 15,000 First Runner-up - INR 10,000 Second Runner-up - INR 5,000 The winning team of the Competition will get an opportunity to intern at Khaitan & Co. The Environmental Law is one of the core and crucial areas in which endeavors relating to research and education have been stressed upon by School of Law, Sharda University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The Centre of Excellence for Environmental Law aims to continue its efforts in promoting legal and policy research in the field of Environmental Law by conducting Conferences, Seminars, workshops and FDP etc.   About the Conference In the present era any discussion on environment is incomplete without discussing the contribution of Paris Agreement 2015. The Paris agreement's focus was on its goal to limit global warming to well below 2 degree, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels. It is important to note that though it is touted as legally binding agreement in fact it is a legal which is a hybrid of legally binding and nonbinding provisions. Now it needs to be looked into that what is the role of Negative Emissions to adapt and mitigate climate change. Large-scale carbon removal, also referred to as negative emissions, has recently gained attention as a key component of climate change mitigation pathways that limit warming to 1.5 or 2°C. This developing dialogue is intriguing not just for what it says, but also for what it doesn't say. The negative emissions literature is present now is forward-looking and hypothetical, characterized by the results of scenario assessments and hence mostly focused on future hazards and situations. While this has sparked a lively debate about the feasibility and appropriateness of various mitigation pathways—as well as how and by whom they are built-there has been considerably less attention paid to stocktaking or efforts to learn from real-world carbon removal experiences. Despite the fact that many of the "technologies" presently being promoted under the name of "zero emissions" are really harmful to the environment- —primarily bio-energy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) with afforestation and reforestation as discussed in IPCC, 2018 have been around for a considerable time. More generally, the enhancement of carbon sinks has been a policy objective and a coveted offsetting strategy at least since the negotiation of the Kyoto Protocol. The lessons from earlier experiences with carbon removal directly speak to the present possibilities, limitations, barriers, and conditions for negative emissions and should inform current research and policy promises if we are to avoid repeating past mistakes. Self-reflexivity, on the other hand, must extend to the underlying politics of the negative emissions debate. Because of the irreducibly political nature of carbon removal, researchers must question whose interest are served and whose are neglected in the pursuit of negative emissions.   Call for Papers The organizers of the International Conference call upon the academicians, practitioners and legal professionals, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, research scholars, and students etc. to send their unpublished research papers on broad themes mentioned below: It is also proposed that the selected papers by the Committee will be published in a special volume on the conference in the form of an edited book with ISBN No. Authors of selected papers would be given an opportunity to present their papers as per requirement of the theme during sessions on the day of the conference.   Sub Themes Carbon sinks and climate change. Paris commitment and limiting global warming to 1.5°C : Negative emission technologies Biological Techniques of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). Direct Air Capture with Carbon Storage Bio-Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage, "BECCS” Technological and geochemical processes for carbon dioxide capture Soil-based negative emissions, such as reforestation, soil management, and the restoration of coastal wetlands. The Legal Centre for Women’s Welfare (LCWW), Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), Tiruchirappalli is organizing the National Conference on Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Women Migrant Workers and Law in India, virtually, on October 30th, 2021.   About TNNLU TNNLU is located in Srirangam Taluk of the Tiruchirappalli Corporation, formerly known as Trichinopoly. The Government of Tamil Nadu established this institution of learning by an Act of State Legislature (Act No. 9 of 2012) to provide quality legal education. TNNLU commenced its functioning from the academic year 2013-2014. TNNLU offers two five years integrated Under Graduate Programmes, B.A.LLB. (Hons.) & B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) and three one-year LL.M. Programmes: - Corporate and Securities Laws, Intellectual Property Laws and Natural Resources Laws. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized and approved TNNLU under Section 2(f) and under Section 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956. TNNLU has received recognition from the Bar Council of India (BCI) for the programmes it offers. TNNLU aims to develop among the students and faculty a sense of responsibility to the society through an interdisciplinary approach to the study of law. TNNLU is a fully residential campus with separate hostels for men and women. TNNLU library has an updated Web OPAC system, Remote Access facility, and air-conditioned discussion rooms. TNNLU is a member of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Association of Commonwealth Universities, Asian Law Institute and Indian Academy of Social Sciences (permanent member). TNNLU is also an empanelled institution with the Competition Commission of India.   Mission of TNNLU To impart quality legal education nurtured within a robust culture of interdisciplinary research and teaching in an equitable, respectful and supportive environment producing legal practitioners and scholars who will be committed to justice, social transformation and national development.   Vision of TNNLU To achieve global recognition as an institution of eminence and excellence in all spheres of legal education, rooted in an interdisciplinary approach to the study of law, such that the graduates of TNNLU will be independent, critical thinkers and socially responsible human beings.   About Legal Centre for Women’s Welfare The Centre was established in March 2020. The Centre is the brainchild of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. V.S. Elizabeth, who is an expert in feminist jurisprudence and has a great concern regarding issues related to women. The Government of Tamil Nadu invited proposals for Government grants in February 2020, for which the TNNLU proposed the establishment of the Centre and the Government of Tamil Nadu accepted the same. Law is an effective tool in bringing a change in the society, hence the purpose of establishing the Centre is to transform society through changing the attitudes towards women and the status of women by working on Women and Law.   Objectives TNNLU has been always sensitive to women’s issues and concerned with women’s welfare. LCWW strives to achieve a gender just society by critically examining the law and various public policies and making advocacy for the changes in the same and implementation of laws for women’s welfare by conducting various gender sensitization programmes for different stake holders in society. LCWW will also be doing research on contemporary women’s issues and identify the lacunae in the law/policies by the Government and suggest measures to address the same.   Programmes Legal awareness camps, workshops, seminars, conferences on the following topics will be organised online or offline: Legal Literacy for Women Gender Sensitization Women’s Empowerment Violence against Women   Research Areas The Centre focuses on all issues related to women, broadly covering Violence against Women, the role of State in empowering women, the social impediments faced by women and the role of law in addressing these issues.   Concept Note The social status of women is always found lesser than that of men. India has dropped down in the Global Gender Index from 108 to 112. Also, the data on female labour force participation (FLFP) released by the World Bank in June 2020 has revealed the fact that India is lowest in South Asia. The FLFP has declined very steeply since 1990s from 30.27% to 20.79% in 2020. There is also stagnation of FLFP among the urban population of women since 1980s irrespective of raise in education. The plight of rural women is unimaginable. As per the Socio Economic and Caste Census of 2011 more than 48% of the rural population in India consists of female. The female work participation in India is exceptionally low. Due to the socio-economic situation the rural women are forced to take up work ranging from Agricultural coolies in their locality to migrating to far away place in search of job. The neo liberal political economy and urbanization has created a major demand for labour which has forced men and women in large scale to migrate from rural to urban areas. In addition to the prevailing situation the pandemic has caused a great disaster in everyone’s life especially that of rural women who moved out of the female work participation in large number and a sizeable population of the migrant workers belong to the unorganized sector. The migrant workers’ predicament is a never-ending pandemic. Even at this juncture we lack clarity neither on the data related to women migrant workers nor do we have a policy on their working conditions, maternity benefit, safe working environment, housing facilities etc. 74 years of Independence, India watches its women removing their Uterus just to avoid wage loss. This tells us a bitter truth that these women folks are not only ignored but also unempowered.
