Essay Writing Competition: Talk about your Problems by Kshitizz NGO
Essay Writing Competition: Talk about your Problems by Kshitizz NGO

Kshitizz NGO is organising an essay competition to give an opportunity for every law student who wants to talk about their problems in law school. About Kshitizz NGO Kshitizz (a Hindi word that means “Horizon”) is an NGO, formed by the Advocates, Lawyers, and law students of premier legal institutions especially Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam, registered under the Societies Registration Act bearing Reg. No- S000044, 2019-20.   About the Competition It has been rightly said that All Life is Problem-Solving. Problems are integrated with life. There’s hardly anyone who has never had a problem in his life. And is it really a life that doesn’t have any problem at all? Maybe not, because life is about experiences and experiences are largely the results of the problems we face and the ways in which we end up solving them. Sometimes all we need is someone who would patiently listens to our problems, that solves half the problem already. This thought made the organizers come up with an opportunity for every law student who wants to talk about their problems in the form of an Essay Writing Competition.   Guidelines for the Competition Talk about your academic background before joining law school. (10th and 12th, the marks obtained therein, any setbacks suffered, etc.) Talk about your motivation to pursue law as a career. Talk about your experiences while preparing for competitive examinations like CLAT, AILET, or any other examination; the role of coaching institutes, and any other detail that you find relevant. Give out your opinion on the registration fees charged for these examinations. Talk about the issues you’ve faced at the law school, about experiences good or bad, about your curriculum, and your thoughts on the same. Give out your opinion on the fees charged by the law schools, affordability of the courses, financial issues faced if any, etc. If you’re a first-generation law student then talk about any issue peculiar to you. If you’re a graduate, write down the issues you’ve faced after law school in finding a job, choosing the right career path, or anything you consider relevant. Finally give out your suggestions for solving all or any of the issue(s) that you’ve faced. This is going to be a formal way of writing your story, sharing your experiences, and giving out some suggestions so that aspiring lawyers or law students get some insightful information. Your participation will also help the academicians and administration in understanding students’ issues. It will also serve as the basis for our future endeavor named ‘Centre for First Generation Lawyers’, where the organizers will come up with a mechanism to help such students by providing them with better opportunities.   Content Guidelines Authors must conform to the following guidelines before submission– The essay should reflect original and unpublished work of the author. Descriptive pieces are discouraged. The authors should submit analytical work. Co-authorship upto two authors are allowed. Submissions should preferably contain hyperlinks within the text itself for citing the resources instead of footnotes. If hyperlinking the resources is not possible, the submission may contain Blue Book 20th Edition or any uniform citation style to cite authorities as endnotes. Authors should restrict their submissions between 1000-4000 words.     Evaluation Criteria The essays would be evaluated on the following broad parameters: Novelty/originality of the idea, articulation, structure, relevancy and authors’ insight.   Eligibility Must be a law student enrolled in any law course   Prizes The top ten essays that highlight real-time problems and provide feasible and proper solutions to the same will be awarded a book on Constitutional Law by V. N. Shukla.   Important Deadlines Last Date of Registration: August 30, 2022 Last Date of Submission of Essay: October 30, 2022 Declaration of Results: December 15, 2022 on LinkedIn, Instagram and website of Kshitizz NGO.   Fee  INR 101 (Through Gpay/phonepay/Paytm on 8688770152)   Contact Information +91 80029 49735, +91 86887 70152 Email: [email protected]   For registration click here

Workshop on Ethnographic Research Methods for Activists by Sambhaavnaa Institute
Workshop on Ethnographic Research Methods for Activists by Sambhaavnaa Institute

Sambhaavnaa Institute is organizing a workshop for activists called Perspectives: Ethnographic Research Methods for Activists from October 19 to 22.   About the Facilitator Atreyee Majumder is an anthropologist. She earned her doctoral degree from Yale University (2014). She has been an Andrew Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Jackman Humanities Institute, University of Toronto (2016-18). Her doctoral work culminated in her first book Time, Space, and Capital in India: Longing and Belonging in an Urban-Industrial Hinterland (Routledge, 2018). Drawing on her facility in Bengali and Hindi, her research examines questions related to urbanism, print cultures, and religion. This empirical canvas allows her to engage in historically grounded theoretical inquiries – a kind of ear-to-the-ground philosophical practice – into the relationship between time and space, and more recently, inquiries of self and personhood. Her current research agenda is located at the intersection of anthropology, theology, and the philosophy of religion, specifically concerned with the devotional practice of Bhakti. Ethnographic research for this project is being conducted in the sacred city of Vrindavan and its surround in northern India. She has published widely in academic and popular venues including the South Asian Multidisciplinary Academic Journal, Religions, Economic and Political Weekly, 3AM magazine, India Today, Article 14, and LSE Review of Books. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. She is a published poet and an amateur violinist.   Who is it for? Are you a professional in an area that tries to make changes (for the better) in other people’s lives? Does your work get broadly described as a change agent or development practitioner or activist?  Your work of making change and having an improvement in the current state of someone else’s life may require understanding these people’s perspectives on who they are, what role you may play in their lives, and what they think is their own location in the community and the larger world. If these questions are relevant to the work you do, you would definitely benefit from a conversation with practitioners of sociocultural anthropology.   About Anthropology and its Peculiar Method Sociocultural Anthropology was a key form of knowledge through which colonial rulers came to know about their native subjects in the colonies – especially people who were different from people in European countries. Anthropology, thus, has struggled through the twentieth century, to come to terms with its methodology of ethnography. What does it mean for a bunch of researchers (usually trained in privileged parts of the world) to go and study in deep intimacy – the lives of Others – the lives of people who usually live in relative deprivation or disadvantage? The very practical choice of fieldsite and communities of ‘native’ subjects to be studied, was made possible by European imperial investment in societies of ‘difference’. Much of this travel into another’s life has changed in its pattern of execution and in its philosophy, across the twentieth century. Ethnography is the method of talking, seeing, and documenting to establish a sense of other people’s lives – used by anthropologists. The notion of ‘difference’ is fundamental to this technique one that simultaneously moves away from the Us/Them divide. Ethnography and anthropology go hand-in-hand, but there are possibilities for the usage of ethnographic methods outside of the disciplinary domain of anthropology. Who are we? Who are these people in whose lives we seek to intervene? These questions come to the forefront of many of our lives – as policymakers, journalists, activists, and many other professions that operate outside of academia. The ethnographic lens can help in some of these endeavors.   Objectives This workshop conducted over four days (see detailed plan on the website, link below) aims at: Day 1: Bring ethnographic research techniques to people outside the anthropological universe, especially those who work at the intersection of law, policy, and society. This requires engagement with some reading material on the first two days. Day 2: Constructing research questions and visiting one’s ongoing, or currently planned research through the ethnographic lens. Bringing to the forefront, the elements of mutual dialogue, ethics, situational sensitivity and understanding in furthering the work of activists and practitioners. Day 3: Bringing to the forefront, the elements of mutual dialogue, ethics, situational sensitivity and understanding in furthering the work of activists. Participants will write a short ethnography based on their future or ongoing research. Day 4: Writing workshop.   Structure The workshop explains what ethnographic research is and what kinds of things it can be useful for. The first two sessions will introduce ethnography as a research technique of anthropology. It will unpack ‘a point of view about points of view’. This discussion will depend on unpacking some previously distributed reading material, that participants will have to come having read beforehand. The final session focuses on a small writing assignment where each participant will share their work with the rest of the group.   Dates October 19 to 22, 2022   Venue Sambhaavnaa Institute, VPO – Kandbari, Tehsil – Palampur, District – Kangra, PIN 176061, Himachal Pradesh   Contribution towards Programs Costs  Participants would contribute a number of INR 5000/- towards workshop expenses, inclusive of all on-site workshop costs: boarding, lodging, and all the materials used in the workshop. Need-based partial waivers are available; we have a very limited number of partial waivers, so, please apply for a waiver only if you really need it. Please do remember that there may be others who need it more than you.   Language  English (with Hindi translation)   Contact Information For any other info WhatsApp or call: 889 422 7954 (between 10 am to 5 pm), or e-mail: [email protected]   To apply click here

The School of law is the youngest department at Shoolini University founded in the year 2017.   About the Conference Every day we live a dignified life within the sphere of human rights protection. This sphere includes and is not limited to socioeconomic, civil, political, and cultural rights; a peaceful environment; education; work; and better living standards. The International Convention, Constitution, Policies, and Statutory Laws and Reformists ensure the protection of human rights. Human rights include and are not limited. A human right has two important facets; it is not an absolute right but a restricted right in the interest of public peace, social decency, and security. The major causes of human rights violations are government actions, structured armed conflict, economic factors, sociological factors, technological factors, and psychological factors. Due to the constant attack and apprehension of the distortion of the human rights sphere, the judiciary has repeatedly played a prime role in ensuring the human rights sphere for humans remains undistorted by the violations. The human rights sphere stands secure due to the reformative measures adopted by the reformists. Reformists include individuals, universities, institutions, society, and a country. The urgent need is to articulate and address human rights causes and issues in a reformist manner that results in significant change and strengthens the human rights sphere. The aims and objectives of the conference are: To learn and address human rights issues through reformists and their approaches To articulate multidisciplinary reformist measures To invite the stakeholders and beneficiaries to present appropriate solutions to human rights issues.
